Found this today at work: http://www.njsunshinelaw.com

It's a bill in the state legislature to update the Open Public Meetings Act and the Open Public Records Act.

Here's an interesting element: it would require that closed, executive sessions have (at minimum) audio records kept and released to the public after the relevant issues have been settled.

There's also a bunch of requirements re: internet-accessible info. Check it out.

The news record (I think?) had a clip about this yesterday. It was said, you can drive a hummer through the sunshine law of New Jersey. The law dates back to 1975. Unbelievable!

Hmm...that's interesting. I guess NJ is trying to move in the direction of Florida. Executive session minutes are kept, and in the case of court legislation, released when the matter is settled. Another great way to kept politicians accountable, even when they think they have carte blanche.

Everyone should sign the petition - need to keep the pressure on before the lobbiest get wind and water down the effort.
