Okay, a restaurant review site ranks a South Orange restaurant high, and the local response is.... Critical?

JTA - as of right now there's one negative and one positive comment. Most know already I'm a Gaslight supporter. I love the food when I go to eat and I always enjoy myself when I'm out for drinks. I won't force you to change your mind, but people should find out for themselves. If you go and have a negative experience, then you don't ever go again, but you might be pleasantly surprised. Last time I was there (about 2 weeks ago) there were several families with children in the dining area and even one small family sitting at a bar table and there didn't seem to be any problems. Go figure. |

I don't like being told to take my cap off, just as I'm about to do it. Especially by a proprietor wearing a moo-moo. The beer is that awful, sweet New England stuff. Yechh. Real beer comes from Germany, Switzerland, Belgium or Holland. Also, the men in the bar always seem to be watching hockey, which is a big problem for me. |

Last time I was there the Zum Altdorf was very good. They also have Ayinger http://en.ayinger-bier.de/?pid=118&par=82 (if you don't ask, you can't learn) |

I like dark and sweet beer. Having said that Gaslights beer is sorta just ok IMO. I find the place helps fill the void of late night restaurants in our area though. I did see a dip in quality in the food the last time I was there though. I am not a gaslight "hater" (probably because I don't have kids). |

I've never had a problem with the beer or the food. But the owners are complete jackasses. |

citoyen... french anyone? During the French revolution, the men or women were not called "Mister or Madam" but "citizen". It is with the Revolution and the "declaration of the rights of man and of the citizen" that this term finds all its direction and its prestige. Furthermore in the U.S.A. we cherish certain unalienable rights - no?

I found The Gaslight to be one of the biggest disappointment in South Orange. Every time I have goen there I have had a bad experience. The food is bad as will as the service. I wish someone els would take it over. I now no longer eat there. |

I heard that if you bring your children to the Gaslight they will be eaten by the troll who lives in the broom closet. |

You can go onto Yahoo and be the only person to review something, and then on searches it shows (100% reviews)...maybe one or two people like the place and gave it good marks. |

Mayor, I myself had trouble with the troll in the broom closet on my last visit and was forced to wrestle my eldest son out of the troll's grasp. The food was so-so, but letting that troll live there is unexcusable. |
