According to Bill Calabrese, therw is not now and never has been a timeline for the Supermarket to open. As of yesterday, he is "hoping" it will open by Thanksgiving, but he has no idea because you never know what they might find once they start construction. Funny how he changed his story from 5 years ago, when he announced in May 2001 that the new Supermarket would open in Thanksgiving 2002. He's such a habitual liar he even lies about his own lies. |

You don't know until you're in the ground. Well, what odds shall we place that they will find an active river of underground water. Look at the topography, it means delays. Could we invite Mr. Choi back to reaffirm his commitment to this project? Perhaps we can ask Stirling to introduce themselves to the residents and address the timeline issues that concern us all.

If I am not mistaken he clearly stated in his last letter from the VP (before the last election) that it was going to open by Thanksgiving 2005. I wish I still had the letter. |

Anyone want to cut up the video of Calbrese saying when the supermarket would open, and splice it with him saying there never was a timeline? I guess he's afraid that if we give a timeline, the terrorists will win. And those that want a timeline hate South Orange. |

Rastro, LOL! I've always said that Calabrese reminds me of Bush - clueless and arrogant. If South Orange had an Army, Calabrese would have invaded Millburn because of 9/11. |

It's true that unexpected things happen in construction, as they do in all other fields. Surprises are not unique to the building trade. Isn't that what site testing is for? Test drilling, subsurface analysis, historic comparisons. And what about building contingencies into schedules? And having a Plan B? And rewards for beating a deadline? And penalties for missing a deadline? Contrary to the comments of the board, it actually IS POSSIBLE to make deadlines. Help us, help us. |

It's sad, because this isn't even specialized knowledge -- it's just project management 101. Or, common sense. It's like the Twilight Zone. |

Our neighbor and Trustee member, Art Taylor, told several Montrose neighbors that the food market would be open for business T'sksgiving '04. I was elated...then of course, angry and disappointed that it did not happen. We desperately need new Trustee members! Don't know how they keep their jobs -- I don't vote for them, that's for sure! |

I would be very interested to know if Mr. Choi stilll plans on opening the market. What legitmate business man could deal with this kind of delay? Is his business plan even still valid? Has he opened other places in the interim? Unlikely that he is still sitting around waiting. Does anyone know? |

Check out how suddenly he now just has "hopes" about the Supermarket opening THIS year: www.howard-levison.com/notimeline.wmv Considering it is now March, we have been told that the Parking Deck must be completed FIRST before the Supermarket can open, not a shovel of dirt has been moved for the Parking Deck AND the Village STILL does not control all properties necessary for the project. Guess what gang - breaking news - there will be no new Supermarket opening in 2006. |

Honestly, these politicians suck monkey balls except eric d. What Eric says - has happened. As for those habitual liars up there, when we have to vote again none of these mofos should be able to run again except Eric. When the vote does happen its gonna look like groundhog day. It's a travesty when they all start doin work on the sh*t they f*cked up through the 4 years they were suppose to do it. SO WHAT I'M SAYIN IS WE NEED TO GET THIS DONE AND DON'T VOTE FOR THEM. ERIC D. Parkingsux, I find the vulgar vocabulary you use to express your opinions distasteful. Your 12:05pm. remarks in the “S.O Master Plan” thread about a fellow MOLer and Village official are disgraceful. I hope Dave cleans this board from your ilk. This is a board that offers to all of us a means of conveying important information, a forum of intelligent discourse on matters of our Village. Your numerous aliases are polluting this board, and your posts have nothing intelligent to offer; they are offensive to any mature and civilized reader. In the future, in case Dave allows you to return to this forum, I ask you to please refrain mentioning my name in your posts.

Eric, point well taken. I think the posters on this thread are concerned about the timeline for construction. The previous meeting, it was expressed that the market will be built and operating by Thanksgiving 2006. Now we are told, don't know? Why is there a continuum of false information publicly stated from week to week. I don't understand it? The public has endured repeated misconveyances - when will it stop? Let's be respectful in all our deliberations. As for the TS sculpture, I couldn't disagree with you more.

Pizzaz, On the Tony Smith sculpture all you and I can do is: agree to disagree. As for your questions, they are too general for me to answer. I can only answer for my own actions and statements. I don’t know “why there is a continuum of false information publicly stated from week to week” – I have not given any false information. I also cannot answer your question when will all this stop – I am not a psychic. I have tried to be as straightforward as I can be in my statements here on this board as well as at the BoT meetings. If you have a specific question for me I will be glad to answer it. Eric

I think a nice place for the Tony Smith sculpture would but in the duck pond with the rest of the duck droppings. The problem with the supermarket timeline is that people actually expect the trustees to accomplish something. I have been around long enough to see that does not usually happen. I suggest that everyone shut their eyes and forget about getting a market in town. Then it will be a great and wonderful shock when the supermarket opens at the end of '09. (That's 3009) |

Why not just give up on the supermarket and put a CVS or something like that in the space. It looks like it would be the appropriate size. Does the area really need another gourmet store when there is already King's in MW and Whole Foods in Millburn? |

MHD, my answers to your questions: “Eric - what is YOUR understanding on the current target date for the Supermarket to open?” I have not seen any construction schedule on the project, nor have I been informed of a target date. Based on my experience, I would say that the completion of a project of this magnitude would take at least 18 months after construction has began, on an accelerated schedule, and only if everything runs smoothly, i.e. no strikes, no extended inclement weather, no construction material shortages, no geological surprises, no environmental surprises, no money shortages, no lawsuits, no developers' corporate problems. “Would you agree that considering it is now March, we have been told that the Parking Deck must be completed FIRST before the Supermarket can open, not a shovel of dirt has been moved for the Parking Deck AND the Village STILL does not control all properties necessary for the project that there will be no new Supermarket opening in 2006?” Yes, I agree.

Trustee Devaris, I appreciate your honest and realistic answer. I do, however, find it troubling that you have not "seen any construction schedule on the project, nor have I been informed of a target date". I thought only the RESIDENTS of the town were kept in the dark - I would have hoped that the BOT would at least be kept informed. I do hope you can make a request for a construction schedule, including an anticipated start date, end date and key milestones and will share that with us all very soon. |

There's a building on Valley Road and Third next to the former Gulf Station that looks like a potential site for a market, should this one stall out for whatever reason. It appears big enough and has parking/additional space for parking. It's a white building with signs for Brunner on it. Could the space in New Market be used for something else (clothing or housewares retailer[s]) and this other space be used for a grocery? |

Joel, my answer to your question: “Mr. D: If Beifus ever starts, in your opinion, applying same concerns, how much time would elapse before that project be finished?” The Beifus site is across the street from a property I own. I will not comment on it, lest I expose myself to conflict of interest.
