I think our boston terrier Toby has gone exploring. He's about 18 lbs, black and white, and very friendly. I don't know if he has his collar on or not (we've been in and out side all day enjoying the nice weather). He's somewhat chatty when playing with other dogs, but I've never seen him vicious. He likes to sunbathe and play with tennis balls. We're on the seton hall side of town, and I don't think he'd go far - more likely start walking then not know how to get home (we haven't been here long enough for him to know how to get back). |

Elizabeth- If you give us an idea of where in the Seton Hall area you live I happen to be heading over to Marshall School in about an hour; but I can go earlier to look a little for you. Are you over near Wliden, Tuxedo Park, or Warren? Also, if you have a photo to post, it might help. |

Not sure where we are in relation to Seton Hall. We're between Tichenor and Richmond on Village. So I guess closer to town - which is where we walk him, so I would think he would head that way? Although there were landscapers with their blowers, so he might have walked the other way. Thanks for keeping an eye out for him! |

Elizabeth, I live near you and have also had my dog go wandering. Actually, it was one of the landscapers that helped me find my dog. I would talk to the landscapers and give them your number. I'll keep my eye out for him. Hope he makes it home jml |

Elizabeth - You might want to try driving around the neighborhood shouting his name and shaking a box of dog biscuits. (It used to work for our dog) |

Thanks for the help. As soon as the baby gets up from her nap, we're going out walking & calling again (already been out once, but the kids were getting too cranky). I've notified just about everyone I can think of (including the mailman!) and just pray, pray, pray he hasn't gotten hit by a car. |

Well, what I suspect happened is that with us all out this morning, I did have the gate to the back yard closed. But on the "Honey would you...." list is to fix it so when you close it, it stays closed. And with the strong winds this a.m., I think what happened was that the wind blew the gate open, and Toby found another garden bed to sleep in. Then followed the sun as it went to the front of the house. And then when he couldn't see us, he started walking towards town (which is the only place we've walked so far). Then because we haven't done it all THAT often, couldn't figure out how to get home. One girl downtown thought she'd seen him in the triangle grassy area by the middle school, but thought someone had pulled over to pick him up. As soon as he comes home, he'll be re-trained on the Petsafe invsible fence! He's such a people dog, it's rare for him to leave our side. |

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW - I am totally going to go grab every single student I see and find your dog! He's absolutely fabulous and something that precious cannot be wandering around in unfamiliar territories! I'll report back |

Well, still no luck finding him tonight. He hates cold weather, so if you have an open garage (or even a way for a small dog to squeeze in) if you don't mind checking for him, we'd be most grateful. |

I never doubted that he would be, I just didn't want to jinx it. Give him a lot of lovin' and a biscuit. |

MOL was actually responsible for Toby finding his home. Check out the "please help" section. I love a happy ending. |

Wow! What were the odds of that happening! Good thing Toby is back home safe and sound. It's pretty cold out there right now. |

Some kind soul found him and tied him to a pole in front of Our Lady of Sorrows. A woman who lives in Maplewood nearly hit him (because while he had the choice to sit on the sidewalk or in the street - he chose the street). She stopped and wondered whether or not we were in the church and when we didn't come out, she took him home. This was probably about the same time I was out walking around tryng to find him. Then a kind soul saw my plea on the Please Help section and said his neighbor had him. So at 9:30 last night my husband went to pick him up (I was too hysterical). When we lived in Boston we had him trained by the petsafe invisible fence because we lived close to the projects which had a reputation for dog fighting, and taking little dogs to train the big dogs to fight. Then we moved to the 'burbs, and felt safe enough to not install it again. I think yesterday's experience taught us that we need to install it here too. I'm just so happy and thankful he was found! |

Elizabeth I just read about your ordeal. I'm so very happy for you that you found your precious beautiful dog. I know how it feels to have a pet they become a part of your family. Again I'm so very happy that you found him. |

So glad you have your dog back! He is adorable! FYI...an invisible fence does not prevent your dog from being stolen (or attacked by another animal), just from wandering out of the yard. You might want to think about a regular fence if it is feasible for your property. Still doesn't guarantee nothing will happen to your pup, but it is safer than an invisible fence.

I agree with Wendy. There would have been nothing preventing someone from coming on your property to take your puppy and carry him over to the projects to be used as bait, just as there would have been nothing to stop a viscious dog from coming on your property and chewing up your puppy. Training, a real fence, tags with your address and phone number, registering with the town, and a microchip should cover it. IMHO. Glad you got him back and hopefully you don't have to go through this again. |
