Please it is very, very important that you read the hole post. Please I do not want anyone to be a victim of identity theft. Tonight I got an Email saying it was from Chase and that Someone had tried many times from an other computer to get into my account. The Email went on to say that I must change my pass word by March 31, 2006 or my account would be terminated indefinitely. I called Chase, because I want to make sure that the Email was really from Chase before I did anything. Chase told me it was a scam and they asked me to send a copy of the Email to abuse@chase.com . Chase also told me that there has been very big increase of these fake Emails and that they are getting lots of calls about them. Chase told me they need every fake Email, so their fraud department can track down the persons responsible for the fake Emails and prosecute and shut them down. If you get an Email like this DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION. IT IS A SCAM!! REPORT IT AT ONCE!! |

Don't even respond to the email as well. And Chase is right, there are lots of these emails floating around. I get alot from Ebay as well. They look so official, that you pay attention to them. If you feel compelled to respond, ask them first for a phone number that you can call. Most often, you won't get a response. Frederick |

So that Nigerian woman who inherited 2 million dollars but had no account wasn't real? No wonder it hasn't shown up at my bank yet |

Please google "phishing" or read http://www.antiphishing.org for information. Equip yourself. Attempts like these have become rampant. One basic rule is that companies where you have accounts will not request you to log in. They have no reason to. Remember this, and don't log in upon request.

Debra- Thanks for letting people know about yet another bank scam. Believe it or not, there are people who do get caught up in these scams. My mom got a phone call the other day supposedly from her bank. She was all set to 'confirm' her information. My sister and I stopped her. She was pretty mad, until we convinced her to call her bank. When she was told by her bank, they would never call asking to confirm information, she apologized. For some reason the number on the caller ID came up 'unavailable.' |

JTA - that sounds like the same thing that we got hit with. They wanted us to "confirm" info, too. But, even tho we didn't do it and reported it to the bank, they still went ahead and cashed a fake check for $59.95. To be on the safe side, tell your mom to look out for fake check for the next few weeks. It took them a week & a half from the initial call to withdraw our funds. The bank reversed the charge, but they are still getting away with it because the amounts are so small. |

Now there's also this new "Jury Duty" scam where they call you and threaten to arrest you for not showing up for Jury Duty... and in the process potentially get a lot of personal information out of you... http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/juryduty.asp

I just got a weird email from "Chase" today. This confirms my instinct that it was a hoax. Thanks for posting. |

I got an email from the IRS this week that they owed me a "refund". Interesting as I had not yet filed. Send it off to the "real" IRS. My one complaint is that it was almost impossible to find an address or phone number to send the scam onto the IRS> Almost qas if they didn't want to be notified. |
