Gents:

I know many have already thanked you in various threads for your efforts and courage last week, but I wanted to add my sincere thanks for taking some serious heat on behalf of all of the residents of South Orange. At a minimum, you three deserve a thread dedicated solely to your greatness and you shall be honored herein.

You have done more than simply stand up to fiscal irresponsibility and government mismanagement, you have ignited what I hope becomes a sustained public debate about the direction (or lack thereof) our BOT is taking this town within what I also hope becomes a wider community than just those who frequent MOL.

We mere villagers of South Orange owe you three a great deal.

John was the second citizen to speak up, right after Michael.

If it is the guy who was in a yellow shirt with suspenders, he has been one of the most measured and articulate people up there. Hooray for him!! Thank you for representing me, JP. He keeps his head, makes his points, asks his questions which are rarely answered. They need to be answered. The village president needs to stop interrupting him and using JP's time at the podium for his own personal tirades.

Thank you a hundred fold Mr. Suspenders.

I don't doubt for a minute that you could get one of these gentlement to run for the BOT. The bigger and better question is how do you get more than the posters on MOL to vote for them? How does Calabrese continue to be voted into office, what is his voting base. How do you get these people to vote for someone else? It's scary that so few people vote and those that do overwhemingly turn out for the status quo.

Unfortunately some, like my mom and sister, don't want to believe what I tried to tell them is happening because it comes from MOL. After reading yesterday's Ledger I think they have finally realized what I've been trying to tell them is true. I doubt either will re-elect any memeber of the BOT the next time around. (except Mark)

The one thing I would strongly suggest is that the candidates start early and knock on the door of every residence in South Orange. This has been missing in recent elections. It takes a lot of time, but in my opinion is the single best way of connecting with the voters. Give up a few Saturdays of standing on Sloan St. handling out flyers and instead use the time to go around neighborhoods knocking on doors.

p.s.- In the last election, Terrianne was the only candidate who went door to door in our neighborhood. I can't even remember any other candidate in previous elections doing this. And we wonder why residents aren't familiar with the candidates.

John P. has been a stalwart and has tremendous patience given the questioning he has to take. He deserves our recognition and support.

Trustee Rosen seemed to think that he had a "gotcha" moment on Monday night because John didn't have the village population at his finger tips - as if John's point was any less valid with a different population number (it wasn't, I don't recall the exact point, but all you had to do was change the pop # and the conclusion was the same).

Mr. Rosen - focus on what is important (e.g., where our tax dollars are going, contractual arrangements that actually protect taxpayers' interests) and the things you and the rest of the BOT are doing wrong (e.g., engaging in or tacitly allowing a verbal sleight of hand to occur in the media that led many "informed" residents to believe there was a dedicated grant for the T. Smith sculpture) not the fact that John didn't have a fact at his finger tips that wasn't central to his point.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Mr. Rosen, in a very narrow sense you're right on a lot of things, but you're either willfully or unknowingly missing the big picture.

Can the Ledger article be reprinted, en masse, for distribution in town?

I too would like to add my cheers for the three Patrick Frye, Michael Goldberg, and John P. for their persistence in getting out the truth (or the lies). This Bd of T has no idea of priorities. A sculpture in town when we don't have good quality water is shameful. These three men let us know who our "trustees" really are. Thank you.

As a newcomer to town, Mr. Fry, I am sorry you were treated with such disrespect by the BOT's. It was admirable of you to take time away from dinner to express your opinion, along with the other longer term residents.

Your discussion of Oak Park was particularly interesting. And I suggest, that if Mr. DeVaris wishes to compare South Orange to Oak Park, Il., he would do well to research the works of Frederick Law Olmstead, the preeminient landscape architect in America, who either himself or his firm designed some yard landscapes in South Orange in an earlier period. That is a much fairer comparison that comparing Frank Lloyd Wright who designed houses in Oak Park to Tony Smith who only lived here.
