I have been wondering where else we could put this sculpture to create more of a buzz than the one our BOT's seem to think will inevitably flow from the installation on SLoan Street. Here's some ideas:
1. On the roof of the Pathmark. It would draw you eye upward away from the hideous looking store and parking lot
2. Behind the plywood panel on Saiyd's lot. It would be even more minimalist than it would be otherwise, being partially obscured. Also, then the village could pay Saiyd for locating it there, which would help him pay real estate taxes on the parcel.
3. On the new basketball courts by Baird. Afterall, they're much newer than the gazebo, and thus why should anyone object to their being ripped out. I think it could go right on the blacktop, no new dirt or bricks to install, and it might lead to a new recreational sport. Perhaps, a net could be mounted on it.
4. By the entrance to the Putle Development in the quarry. The dust from the rock crushers might enhance the patina on the scultpure.
5. In the middle of South Orange Avenue. That would effectively narrow it by yet another lane.

Seriously, it should be a replacement for the needle in front of SOPAC since most likely the circle will be closed off for SOPAC crowd circulation.

I wonder why that was never in consideration. I don't see the point of the needle anyway.

I went back and looked at the prior posts about the location. Mark Rosner posted that these are the reasons the SOPAC site was not chosen: it would have required N.J. Transit's approval, there was concern that it would block the view of drivers going around the circle, and the gazebo location was the VP's preferred choice.

Spitz, I assume that the circle will be eliminated because there is a requirement for an assembly area for the potential number of people at SOPAC events.

Then the question becomes who owns that land that the former circle occuppied. If its still NJ Transit land, then wouldn't putting the sculpture there be donating it to NJ Transit. Heaven forbid! I'm getting the felling that this thing is becoming more and more of an albatross. Why don't they just cancel the contract, incur whatever penalty there might be, and stop this already.

The circle will likely be eliminated once Millenium builds their Glass Dome & Parking Deck, right?

If that is the case then it will protect the sculpture from the elements and rusting.

Is there any information on "where" the town plans on placing the sculpture?

Vertifly,

It is currently scheduled to be installed where the Gazebo is on Sloan Street. (the gazebo that was installed with taxpayer dollars less than 10 years ago)

I am not totally opposed to this controversial thing. But that is a modern scupture.

A glance at Sloan Street seems more like a scene outside the window of a Norman Rockwell picture; not Dali. Hope it looks good there.

Maybe the town could purchase a $500k sports car instead, then have it petrified, and placed on a trophy stand right there. That would be cool too.

I'd say the site is second to the restoration of the piece. To me it looks like it needs to have some serious work done on it after years of it melting into what it is now.
