Maybe this has been addressed before but I am wondering why we don't have a dog run in South Orange. We have the JAC. Can't we find a way to create a town dog run for all of the loving pet owners around town? Can't we use just part of an existing park?

Milburn was working on making one that was in the reservation. I actually don't know the current status of it at the moment though.

I also heard rumblings that SO might do one soon. I haven't heard anything about it in like 6 months though.

Some Maplewood citizens want one and did some basic groundwork location-wise to have a temporary dog park on a small strip of land near the Maplewood Pool. The momentum literally peetered out when it came time to organizing and presenting to the Town Board. If anyone was interested in starting this up again, and is willing to do some REAL WORLD work I would say there is a chance that Maplewood could have one. Money didn't appear to be the issue since VERY MANY people offered to contribute funds to put in the fence, and I also vaguely remember a few local businesses offering to provide either free or discounted materials.

Do a search for dog park on MOL and you will see QUITE a few threads on the matter.

Yes, this was address several months back. I defiantly think it is in the best interests of South Orange to have a dog park. I rember as a little girl my sister taking me to see the dog park in Boston. It had fake fire hidrents for the dogs. I think a dog park with things for the dogs to play on and in would be great. As well as a place were the dogs could run around and play with each other. I feel very strongly that only friendly dogs that get along well with other dogs should be the ones aloud to use the dog park. That way we can keep our dogs safe.

I am fairly sure that there was a parks committee in SO that considered this topic recently and decided that there were better uses for public funds. I think that unused strip of park beside gaslight commons was considered as a site. I think I read this on MOL.

This is a great idea, but it already failed on a trial basis. It seems that a local business owner on the park committee placed cones in the park and would only allow dogs belonging to his customers. They even advertised it as "Valet Barking".

Dog park was discussed along time ago just like the skate board park was and nothing was done.
I HAVE ANOTHER IDEA!!! The Trustees should condemn the beifus project and make a dog park and a skate board park in the back of the property and a pedestrian park in the front of the property! This would bring people to town.

A sweet policeman in the reservation told me the dog park in the reservation was to be createdin the old deer paddock and that plans were nearly complete. Can this be true??

I heard that also! It is through Millburn Township I believe. Maybe someone should post in the Millburn section for further news...
