Not sure if you know this or not but the old Village Drugs (now a jean store) will be empty shortly. It's larger then some of the other stores people recently told you about. Has a shared parking lot, is in a great foot traffic area, and is far enough away from the other sub places. You might want to give it a look as a place to reopen Campus Sub. |

im sure there will be many reasons offered as to why that space cannot possibly work for a sub restaurant. and then blimpy will open there four months from now.

I haven't recently checked out the building Tracey mentioned, but if memory serves, wasn't that corner once the location of the sadly departed but very fabulous "Stuff Yer Face" Boli shoppe? Of course, it's easy to understand that the mere fact of a multi-location (high-end!) sandwich operation choosing that site as its South Orange outpost wouldn't necessarily interest our boy Sean, whose requirements in a building are, as we all know, "special"... Now, I can see why the very prickly Mr. Flood might suffer from some small degree of professional jealousy regarding a business so successful that it not only (a)spawned Mario Battali, but also (2) perhaps felt that South Orange was too far afield from the Home Office to allow for the maintenance of the high QC standards required by SYF HQ. Of course, there's also the touchy question of those Seton Hall palates, which may not be quite as discerning as those at Rutgers/New Brunswick (which very nicely support both SYF and the infamous Grease Trucks)... -s. BTW, while we're being catty: Luv John, can't stand Tracey. |

Hey! It's been over an hour, and none of you stalwart Soda-hatin', Randinelli-lovin' MOLers have taken so much as a swipe at me for my heinous and unprovoked attack on Tracey! Well, you're all too late now, 'cause I'm gonna spoil your fun: I actually can stand her. I rather like her, in fact. So there. -s. But I still don't like Marie... |

If Sean finds some excuse for both the old SYF AND the old Village Drugs, then I will finally agree with what others have said. That perhaps he really isn't interested in re-opening. I'd love to see a Burnett BBQ Place or Wendy's; but that will never happen. |

JTA- I already mentioned to Sean that he should consider the Jeans store... Look at this thread: "Posted on Sunday, February 12, 2006 - 12:32 pm: JMF- Do YOU own your own storefront business??? I am not complaining about Sean's "ability to wait". In fact, I wish him success in his endeavor, and hope he does open- I think you are missing my point. I just do not believe him; as far as I can tell, he has been on this board complaining for a long time about his inability to find a "good enough", or "suitable" location. Everything is too big, too small, no parking, too busy, not busy enough- which is it?! I personally think it's nonsense. As any of us can see, there are all kinds of stores available now, and have been over the past at least few years. When Sean constantly refers to not enough parking, or too small, one has to wonder. There was a sign on the Jean Store for a long time. That store is larger than his previous one; municipal parking behind. " If you go back to that thread, you will see that all Sean did by way of an answer was to complain about THD- which, by the way, Matt Foley and Parrot Head seem to be doing as well in this thread! What I do not get about the THD naysayers is that they fail to consider that in all the storefronts Sean has passed up, the owner of THD seems to be moving along, re-devoping an eyesore, converting a wreck of a piece of dilapidated property into a 2 Story building. One has to wonder why Sean could not just rent a store and put in a few Deli cases, and why people are getting on THD's back, when there are plenty of eyesores WITH NO PROGRESS in Town- Beifus, The Rug Store, the pit near the Post Office, to name a few. I personally cannot wait for a Town Hall Turkey Sandwich, and some potato salad! |

Matt Foley's Chicken-n-a-Donut? South Orange Village will have a one stop pastry & poultry experience. We are also considering mixing some items together. Ensuring that those who prefer a more ecclectic meal can crow about our little shop. Some examples; Foley's Fowl Fritters- A smooth blend of mechanically seperated turkey parts & cranberry/apple fritter. Southern Fried Chicken on a Mattress- Tasty homemade pan fried chix served over a bed of sweet cornbread. The Pit Of Chicken- A hollowed out bread bowl enclosing a zesty dijon mustard smothered boneless chicken patty. Includes a wild rice and veggie medly within. Some other menu items: Deep fried corn on the cob, deep fried watermelon (it's so good), oversized turkey drumsticks, piping hot half chickens, and mashed potato sandwiches dripping in gravy. **Of course we will also serve only the freshest donuts and chicken al la mode as well. **As a consumer I prefer my donuts served right out of the oven (Krispy Kreme style before they overexpanded and bastardized their staple product). You as my valued customer will be assured to get your donuts within minutes of their arriving behind the counter. A walk-up window in the alley will be open all year long. Morning coffee will be served fresh and without wait as you my busy customer can make your train. In addition I will employ energetic local kids to deliver your "Dinner Baskets" to the SO Train station platform for you to take home to the family. Simply pre-order your supper from the office, provide us with the train you anticipate taking home, and voila...dinner waiting for you the moment you return to our hometown. I am putting together a syndicate of investors and hope to see you all soon. PL me for complete business plan and investor prospectus. |

Mario's Stromboli's was the original site of Campus Sub before it moved to Irvington Ave. Anyway, my guess is that Sean has given up the ghost. Two chains opening in the center might be too much competition for an indie sub shop to face. |

Oh, but Sean has stated repeatedly that his new venture won't be "just" a sub shop, yes? Surely he has a grander vision in mind. One can only quiver with anticipation at the prospect of Mr. Flood's next opus... if only our pathetically inadequate real estate was worthy of it... -s. |

Sean's intentions in posting on MOL are nothing more than an avenue to vent his sour grapes with the village and make accusations with no basis of fact. Many have provided options to allow him to open his sub shop and he comes back with endless excuses and rhetoric. If/when he decides to come back to the village and open up shop, I will not be a customer.

Malt, you're being a little too hard on him. I think his pet peeve is the way the town handled the multiple sales of the Midas property. It's the same story over and over. It's all about BC and his circle of friends. If you buy the schmelt line, the end justifies the means. Don't ever think everyone believes that. |

Not sure why it's taking THD so long but at least they are working on it (through the winter no less). More than most other projects in town. |

Malt: I see construction on the site maybe one day a week. Sometimes a lot more time passes in between work days. The winter was extremely mild. If they couldn't complete the exterior at this point when will they ever finish? In the past Soda has had some good inside info - maybe he could enlighten us? |

I would imagine the owner is trying to get this done as quickly as possible so he can start running the business. My point is that progress is being made in the middle of winter and it's good to see someone actually moving forward with a project in town other than SOPAC. As with any project involving inspections and other approvals from the town, you never really know who or what is causing the delays. I have heard the village is very difficult to work with and that paperwork is slow (I know - big surprise). This could be the case here. |

I read a biography recently where the author's dad is trying to build a home for his family on his own. Everytime he could scrape enough money together to buy 10 cinder blocks, he would go get them and lay them on the site. The foundation stood there, waiting for him to get enough dough for the next load. For some reason, I think of that story every time I pass the THD site. |

Just saw this thread. Haven't been on in a dog's year. Aunt, my wife and I are expecting our third child any day now so finding a second location has been slowed considerably. I've privately reached out to someone on the BoT for some advice recently but not actively looking until after the baby. Hope you understand. Someone above wrote they would like to see a Wendy's in town. A recent poster said they wanted a McDonald's. Why do people want fast food places in SO? I think that is the last thing the town needs. |
