Does anyone think there is value to having a single email address that could be used to send email to all thee trustees? Does anyone actually email the trustees about issues (other than Mark and Eric)? Has anyone received an email reply from any other trustee? I co-own a domain that would be able to provide a relevant email address to send email to all trustees, but I'm wondering a few things: -Would that be illegal in any way? basically it would be either a mail list or mail forward to all trustees. -Would there be value to it? there are only six trustees, plus the VA -Would anyone actually use it? -Would the trustees actually read the mail? -Ultimately, wouldn't this be better handled by South Orange? e.g. bot@southorange.org or trustees@southorange.org |

I think it would be a very astute move. It would stop the need for "writing and mailing" a letter, and maybe by having this quicker and easier way of communicating with the trustees, it will encourage a lot more people to become involved. I think people would have to remember to be respectful..... there are always polite ways to express views, nothing will be gained by irreverence. A main e-mail address should mean that it can automatically be forwarded to each trustee to whatever e-mail address they use. It will be a way for our trustees to become closer to the residents of South Orange.

Keep in mind that each trustee does have an email address. It is <firstinitial><lastname>@southorange.org. mrosner@southorange.org ataylor@southorange.org arosen@southorange.org edevaris@southorange.org sjennings@southorange.org tmooreabrams@southorange.org Plus, wcalabrese@southorange.org jgross@southorange.org So there are already email addresses for them. But I guess my question is, does anyone from the public use them, and do any of the trustees, beyond Mark and Eric, actually check them? |

I have received emails back from everyone but the Village President and Trustee Rosen. I don't know though - I sent an email to the southorange.org account to Mark and he never got it but did receive the one that I sent to his personal account. They may need to check on it and make sure it's getting to the trustees. I think the new website design looks great - I think the best way to do something is for everyone to fill out the electronic form online. This way it is also an official record that all of them have been notified and shows up in that nice big packet that goes out at the BOT meetings that shows what official correspondence/concerns they've received. |

Sheena, can you post a link to the form you're talking about? I can't seem to find it. |

Hey Mr. Rastro, There is none - I was saying that the website looks good and would suggest adding a electronic form (sawee).

Rastro: All one had to do is send to Msmith@southorange.org (she is the village clerk ) and ask her to distribute them to the full board.

Ah... Though I do think that having it as an email address would allow for broader access. For many, particularly those at work, it is easier to compose an email than go to a web site. The email could also go to either the Village Clerk, or whoever it is that puts together their packets. Plus, email is interactive, whereas a form that is then printed out and included in a packet is really just a notification mechanism. If I'm emailing something, it's typically to ask a question. If I wanted to wait for the next BOT meeting, I'd call into that meeting. Besides, I hate web forms. :-) |

Mark, except that I can send an email with a read or delivered receipt requested, and have an idea as to whether anyone has actually read my email. And why make work for Ms. Smith, just to distribute email? I'm sure she has more important things to do. |

Rastro, being able to send one email that could be electronically distributed to each Trustee's email address might be helpful. I think MOLers might want their privacy protected, at least in some cases. In answer to one of your questions, I've emailed trustees individually before and never heard back. So I guess I'm a bit disinclined to make much effort trying to reach them other than to post things here. In principle, some might find it helpful, however. Maybe you should see what others think. Emaling the same message to all of them might ensure that none could say they didn't know about the message if some got it and others claimed they didn't |
