I think Democrats and Republicans can agree that downtown development and our village finances have been grossly mismanaged, so I'm loathe to turn the conversation in a partisan direction, or toward an issue that may not share the same level of unanimity. That said, the frustration with the mismanagment and strategic and tactical failures made locally does remind one of another hubristic leader. "They appear to have learned almost nothing from the last three years in Iraq. The only sensible expenditure of energy is to find ways to hem these guys in or constrain them before they do even more damage to this country." Taken from Talkingpointsmemo.com regarding Seymour Hersh's New Yorker article on Bush administration's thinking on Iran. A couple quotes: "He said that the President believes that he must do "what no Democrat or Republican, if elected in the future, would have the courage to do," and "that saving Iran is going to be his legacy." "One former defense official, who still deals with sensitive issues for the Bush Administration, told me that the military planning was premised on a belief that "a sustained bombing campaign in Iran will humiliate the religious leadership and lead the public to rise up and overthrow the government." He added, "I was shocked when I heard it, and asked myself, 'What are they smoking?'" Feel free to swap out a few words of the "They appear to have learned nothing..." quote to create your own comment on Calabrese & Co. Or put your efforts toward finding ways to hem them in. M. Goldberg and H. Levison, keep fighting the good fight.

SO1969, I have made the same comparison many times, as well. Both are not too bright. Both think there are unlimited funds for their pet projects. Both assume (correctly) that not enough people are paying attention. Both are habitual liars. Both think they are invincible and above the law. Both are running their respective "territory" into the ground with their arrogance. |
