Amount of time it took to build the Empire State Building from scratch = 1 year. Amount of time it takes to rennovate S. Orange Train station = 3 years and counting. I don't get it. |

Everyone should take a drive over to Livingston center to see the result of proper planning. The new stores, condos and shopping areas are opening up. 3 years ago, the center of South Orange and Livingston looked the same. Fenced abandoned structures, construction zones blocking sidewalks, and signs of future prosperity "coming soon". 3 years later... Livingston - New stores, buildings, housing, parking, and revenue generation. South Orange - Same fenced abandoned structures, construction zones blocking sidewalks, and signs of future prosperity "coming soon". We are wasting so many opportunities to improve the town? Unlike Livingston, South Orange has a University and a New York bound train. Why aren't we taking advantage of this? |

What is going on with the Sloan St Eastbound stairs? By all appearances, they have been completed for at least 3 weeks now! what is taking so long to open them?

I do my grocery shopping in Livingston all the time, Red. I'd do it in South Orange, but, oh, gee, we don't have a decent supermarket. But I understand that one is coming soon. Just can't wait! Seriously, though, seeing what they're accomplishing in Livingston makes me want to cry. Have you seen their beautiful new library addition? What's wrong with our town government? Where has all the money gone? |

It would be nice to have the Livingston Mall to provide tax dollars for things like library additions. Maybe turning the SHU campus into something that's taxpaying would help! |

Noodle, It would also be nice to have a Government that didn't piss away our tax dollars on redoing "sidewalks" with statues after only 7 years. It would also be nice to have a Government that didn't "shift the salary" of employees to tenured positions. It would also be nice to have a Government that didn't provide subsidies of $1.2 million to quarry developers. It would also be nice to have a Government that didn't take numerous taxpaying properties off the tax rolls without a real plan for getting them developed. What was that about where has the money gone, again? |

The yellow "caution, stand back" rumble strips, or whatever you call them, have not been installed yet on the last piece of platform by the stairs. I am guessing they cannot open the staircase until that gets dealt with. No idea in the world why it's taken so long. |

They also haven't installed the permanent railings on the Eastbound stairs and I doubt they will open it until they do. As I recall it also took them months to finish off the Westbound stairs after most of it had been completed. |

It is extremely frustrating to see the stairs so close to completion and no work being done on them. I haven't seen a worker near the stairs in more than a month!

Does anyone know what is behind the metal roll-down door between the train station entrance / Cait & Abby's? It looks like the kind of place that would have a Newsstand, but I have never seen it open and now it simply has grafitti on it. What is it there for & can something be done to make it look better? |

It was once "Ralph's" newsstand. The other side is (was) a Police substation. |

This is the most exciting thing to happen to South Orange since - the train first came to town. I am proud to live in South Orange! This is going to raise property values, bring in new tourists and new business, generate seminars and visitors from all over the state. This is really going to put South Orange on the map! I hope we have enough parking and restaurants to handle the crowds. But where was the press, the TV cameras, the Governor? And I admit - I was wrong. I thought the Performing Arts Center would be finished first, but no - the Second Street train staircase is finally open! Jerry Tuttle www.SoOrangeNotary.com |
