I drive through Montrose every morning on my way to West Orange. What's the deal with the gray house off of Montrose Ave. with the film crew? Movie? Does anyone know any details? I just saw a huge trailer parked in the neighbor's driveway. |

I take it from the lack of response that this is "old news". I know it's a popular area for filming but I thought because I saw the big trailer that a famous actor was over there or something. I didn't stop to ask anyone. Oh well, carry on. |

That house is regularly hosting commerical shoots...Great for the economy if they used a local caterer or local police for security...but it seems most of their trucks say out of town companies. I guess the home owner makes a few dollars and for the rest of us inconvienced trying to get down Berkely Ave toward Rte 280. |

They were filming something a few weeks ago too. I thought a payment has to be made to the town when something like this happens. I also thought there was a limit to the number of these things you can have at your residence. |

Thanks. Nice for that homeowner. I knew there was always camera action over there but I thought this time was a major production. |

We did this in our house when I was a kid. We had like 30 commercials filmed in it. My parents let me stay home when Bill Cosby was there filming a "Pudding Giggles" commercial. They need big houses with large openings from hallway to dining room or living room for the camera dollies. We actually had a bathroom redone for a print ad that was about getting a loan. The text was something like, "can't decide whether to fix the porch or the bathroom?" The F-ed up bathroom was our actual F-ed up bathroom. My parents used the money from the shoot to fix it up. The film activity on Berkeley was for a commercial with Sally Field in it. Also, a production company who wants to shoot in the Village must apply for and pay for a permit to do so. |

Just the Aunt: I work in the film industry. Yes, it's up to the town to decide how much filming can be done. If you speak to the NJ Film Commission, they will tell you which towns are more "film-friendly" for film makers. In Northern Jersey, Montclair & Berkely Heights are 2 of the towns that have a reputation for being extremely film friendly. South Orange, Orange, & West Orange are also pretty popular. As mentioned, the older & larger homes are convenient for film makers, in order to fit dolly tracks, lighting gear, etc. Not to mention, they look nice on camera. Fees are paid to the home owner, the location scout who finds the home, & sometimes (but not always) to the town itself. Regardless, permits have to be issued & the local police have to sign off on any traffic issues. |
