Friends in other towns rave about the success of the "Tricky Tray". Our BOT and BOE should look into this. www.trickytray.com Tricky Tray: Pronunciation: 'tri-kE 'trA Function: noun Plural: tricky trays Synonyms: penny sale, penny auction, penny sale, gift auction, chinese auction, silent auction, brown bag auction, dark horse 1: a fund raising event for a church, school or other organization where guests buy tickets, then place them in a container next to the item they would like to win. Items can be a single item or a group of items based on a theme. Once everyone has had the opportunity to place his or her tickets in the container, the drawing for the prizes begins. If your number matches the winning number drawn, You win that prize. Alternative way to raise money besides Pilots, bake sales, and tax hikes.

I love Tricky Trays - I just went to one at the Wayne Manor for one of the Belleville Elementary schools (a co-worker's kid goes there) and it was great. Plus, I won a cooler, an ice cream maker, and a salad shooter, other people at my table went home with a digital camera, a grill (big prize), Target gift cards and other stuff. OLS has a tricky tray too, this school year's was in November and was also quite a good time. |

I was the chairperson for my daughters tricky tray. We prepared for it a year in advance getting donations, ads, and lots of other things. The grand total that we raised was 48,000 dollars which went to purchasing new play gound equipment for the school. Our super grand prizes where a 52" plasma TV,trip for 4 to disney, trip for 2 to Las Vegas, Tiffany ring, necklace, bracelet, earings set and many other great prizes. In order for a tricky tray to be successful you need alot of parent participation, people to get donations from local and non local stores, salons, resturants etc. Each class was given a theme to make a basket(ex italian basket, arts and crafts, baking basket) etc. Many famlies made their own baskets plus alot of cash was donated to the tricky tray to buy the super grand and grandprizes. The only way it can be successful is if you have parents who are willing to help. Feel free to PL for more info. |

Clinton School did a Tricky Tray this year. Marshall/Jefferson did an auction that combined live & silent bidding as well as drawing tickets from a bag for a large assortment of prizes. It raised over $35K. Believe me, the PTAs do A LOT of fundraising that most people in town don't know about unless your child is in that school |

It would be a good way to raise money for a downtown improvement and developement fund. Far better than imposing a SID on businesses that don't want it. Fines for littering could also contribute to the fund.

I think most of the PTA's do some sort of auction event, which includes the tricky tray type activity. The hard part is finding the volunteers to commit to coordinating, planning, soliciting donations, etc... It takes close to a full year to plan these events. South Mountain's PTA has held this type of fundraiser 3-4 times in the past 6-7 years... (based on personal observation .. I'm not a PTA-sanctioned spokesperson) |

I am Clinton PTA parent and this was our 3rd Annual Tricky Tray. It's run pretty parallel to what Millie mentioned. Just pay attention to MOL's calendar - because it has always been listed. It is so much fun and VERY successful. The hard work really pays off! |
