Let them play in the backyard with a friend. Oy. And you're a nanny?

What a bunch or rude people.

SO Nanny;

If you are looking for a few organized activities, the YMCA in Maplewood offers many little "classes" such as sports or arts and crafts. The libraries often offer some "story time" or other activities. I'm sure there are more, and perhaps you'll find some helpful people that can tell you more.

As for full 1/2 day care, the school district has an after school 1/2 day program for kindy's, as does the YMCA.

Good luck.

I had that dilemma with my daughter. I managed to get her into Kinder Enrichment at the Baird Centre for 3 mornings a week to supplement the 1/2 day Kindergarden (I had selected/requested afternoon Kindergarden). I felt that she would benefit from it and she really has. She comes home after Kindergarden and runs herself into the ground so she is fully active all day!

I don't know if there are any spaces available at the Baird, but you could check into that, and I know that there are a lot of other "Kinder Enrichment" programmes around Maplewood and South Orange, if you are looking for something "educational" as opposed to "activity" for the spare time.

yes, why do you think it's funny to be rude when someone is asking a question? I really get sick of that here. Ok, maybe it wasn't a very explicit question, but those of us with kids (which is most people) can understand the simple, implied questions. Maybe the rude people are just not clever enough?

Our son has thrived in Kinder Enrichment, but if your child is in kindergarten now, then it is too late for that. We found that meeting other children at the park and then making play dates has been helpful, as is joining activities with Coach Dave at the Y.

Not sure, if this was original question, but does anyone have a comprehensive list of Afterschool programs in the area for working parents? (similar to the list of Preschool programs that someone compiled in the Education thread)

My questions would be - where is the program? how much does it cost? is transportation provided? what are the hours?

The only ones I have heard of so far are: Baird (South Orange), YMCA (Maplewood) and JCC (West Orange)

Are there others?

There are programs at Beth El, Sharey Tefilo, the ASP, the JCC for starters, in case you want to start a list. I've never seen a separate list, prob b/c these programs seem to have a foot in preschool or a foot in regular school.
