I'm posting this here, since I couldn't figure out where to put it in Education. Does anyone know what's happening with Montrose School? Is it going to continue as an alternative high school, is it going to close or what?

Lizzie,

Interesting question---but not sure I have anything to offer. It is of particular interest to me as I live on Meeker just one lot away from bordering the school grounds. Neighbors have told me that the town considered re-opening the school a few years back but the cost to get it up to modern codes was astronomical---just what I have heard second hand.

Anyway, just add it to the list of under/un-developed opportunities in a town that I am now finding out has many---it's a very cool building with lots of potential for education, residential and/or commercial investment. Will be interesting to see what might or more likely what might not happen in the coming years.

My kids went to grade school there. It was a very cozy, friendly place. So are you saying that it's presently closed--vacant--not being used?

Hi Lizzie,

Not exactly sure of the status---last I heard it was in partial use for special needs students---but clearly, based on the size and historical significance of the property very under-utilized.

I live in the Montrose area and have never heard about this school. Where is it, exactly?

It's on Clark street, between Mountain house Road and Cameron Field.

It is the site of the Alternative High School, recently saved from the budget axe.

So that answers my question. Montrose Alternative High School will continue on, at least for the year to come.
