I just noticed a sign saying that Village Cellar is closed for renovations until June 5. Anyone know what they are doing now? They definitely win the award for most frequently renovated restaurant ever! |

O&G, WIth all the vacant lots and empty stores, why attack the THD???? I think the brick looks great and at least they are actually moving forward with the project (unlike so many other properties in town). |

Does the Town Hall Deli (THD) seem a little, well, large, if the only thing that is going there is the THD? |

The upstairs will house a in-call only table shower facility. |

I agree...lol...are they going to have 50 different selections of meats with 15 different types of bread? The space where THD is going up is too large for a deli. Think about all of the other restaurants in town, how many times have you seen more than 25 people. Deli sandwiches are not the type of food that you sit down and eat and lounge about with (unless there is alcohol involved). Its more of a get it and go type of meal. The Subway and Quisnos shops are smaller than that. And I'm sure someone has looked at the economics of space and amount of traffic when considering where to put a franchise. BTW - I think too much space is also the issue with the Village Cellar. And if they changed the front window to CLEAR glass that might help as some people like to drive by a place and see how many people are in there. I'm all for new businesses coming into town

I beg to differ. Deli sandiwches are EXACTLY the kind you sit down and lounge about with. Think about Eppes Essen in Livingston. I imagine that kind of place. I could be off here, since I don't know the details, but I'm waiting and waiting and waiting for this join to open so I can go lounge and eat a Reuben and drink an egg cream. But it doesn't look (from drive bys) that the place has made much progress in months! |

Was there a menu change after the last renovation? When it opened, it had a limited and expensive menu, then it changed owners and had a larger but still expensive menu. I think part of the reasons it continues not do so well, is that it is trying to compete against higher end restaurants which have already captured the market. I would love to be able to go to someplace a little nicer than Bunny's or Quincy's but child friendly with good food priced in the 10-20 range (I am thinking GasLight without the belligerence). A decent seafood restuarant would be especially nice. |

I thought THD's new incarnation would also be a deli in the broader, New York / korean deli sense...i.e., a convenience, mini mart of sorts. That would be a very welcome addition, especially if they stay open until 9 p.m. or later. Anyone know if this mini market concept is part of new THD? I agree brick looks good, major improvement to that corner, albeit a slow one.

great that they're making progress. and indeed hard to imagine what they're going to put in there. gourmet grocery with nice eat-in area and wine selection? good luck to them. town could use a place like that. |

I wouldn't call my statement an "attack", but more of a joke consistant with redevelopment in S.O....Honestly, just because they have had recent work being done on their location, I think they are not immune to observation. They too have missed their own deadlines, However, they have been more forthcoming with reasonable responses with delays. |

I can not wait for TH deli to open, I have been dying their sloppy joes. I have to Millburn to for a decent Sloppy. Why does everything take so long in this town? |
