Try Jason Levy. Technically in West Orange on Old Short Hills Road. But very skilled, friendly and reasonably priced.

Thanks everyone! And flugermongers, I may go to my MD also, but I find that they just prescribe pills and have a very reductionist approach to illness. For example, for years (20) MD's treated my bronchitis which I got once or twice a year. Due to my recent discussions with others and my own research, I strongly encouraged an asthma consultation and I was recently diagnosed with asthma as a result. Again, thanks everyone! |

Dr. Jeffrey Shulman on Old Short Hills Road in Livingston. 973-994-1992 He's great! I haven't been going very long so I can't tell you if it has had longer term effects on my own asthma, allergies, and headaches. But my back and neck are feeling 100x better! I'm on the same page as you regarding medical doctors. I've had too many MDs really handle my care "carelessly." I've been over prescribed medications without any warnings about possible adverse side effects. So, now I reserve my MD visits to colds and bacterial infections I think need antiobiotics. |

My own doctor sends me to a good chiropractor when I have a garden variety back attack. Many "real" doctors even admit there's not much they can do in this situation except tell the patient to take a couple of Advil and get some rest. But you do need to be referred to a good chiropractor; don't just pick one out of the yellow pages. Serious back trouble, injury, surgery, etc. is different and requires appropriate medical intervention. Flugermonger's remarks would suggest he/she has never had crippling back spasms.

Ginny, I understand - a lot of doctors aren't so great either - but you have to keep looking. I do not understand your comparison though, because didn't doctors finally diagnose the asthma? I know all about the pill prescribing, and I'm not saying that that's a good thing, or that doctors know everything, but I've heard of only ONE good experience with a chiropractor in my life. I got referred to one by a doctor too - in the same building - they probably all get money off of each other. That was at associates in primary care - I don't think the doctors there are good either - I've just changed my internist to one in NY. Man meat, your remark would suggest you don't know a thing about me... I know all too much about back pain. I'd never ever let a chiropractor touch me again. **post edit - Ginny, if you have a good experience with one, tell me. I will get the name from a friend about a chiropractor she went to - but he was in LI - a TMJ specialist - so I think there's more to him - I believe he was an MD too. I am also jaded about a lot of real doctor stuff - as I've had bad experiences with orthopedists and internists - but I won't stop looking. Perhaps what I'm mostly trying to say is if you want your back cracked a few times fine, go to a chiropractor, but I'd hope that if you do have crippling back pain or something severely wrong, you'd seek better help as not to make matters worse... I wouldn't let a doctor touch me so easily anymore either. Ha, that sounded wrong. Oy. |
