The Village Diner is finely opened. I went there for dinner tonight with two of my friends. I love the food so much better then the old Blue Moon. I love the way they redid the inside. I felt like I was at a real diner, not something just calling itself a diner. A real diner were you can get breakfast any time you go in there. I met the owns and they seam very, very nice. I wish them all the luck in the world. I will defiantly be going back to the Village Diner many, many times as long as they are open. |

We took the boys there last week for an early dinner and had a great time. Really nice people and service and food. Breakfast all day the way it's supposed to be. We'll definitely be going back.

We went on the first Saturday morning for breakfast at about 10:30. The interior is very impressive, and as expected, the staff are getting their feet under them and there was a wait. But, all the customers knew there would be a wait, so it was pleasant. The wait staff were very nice and working their hardest to try to handle the crowd with the owner keeping a watchful eye on the tables and helping to keep things moving along and keep customers happy. Overall, we had a very good typical diner breakfast. IMO, the chocolate chip pancakes were too chocolately (I know, to some people there is no such thing, but my son couldn't handle it which is rare). But, to anyone who is a bacon lover, the bacon could not have been better! Thick, meaty and very tasty! Also very generous portions - the 4 of us could have happily shared one order and we took home the leftovers from the second portion. My only complaint was the state of the bathroom. I don't think it was included in the renovation, which would be fine if only it were cleaner. I would think that a bathroom that is to be used by both male and female customers and employees should be cleaned with supplies refreshed every hour or so. It seemed it had probably not been cleaned since the night before. Perhaps because they were so busy on that first weekend morning this was overlooked. But to me, the way the bathroom is maintained speaks volumes about the sanitary standards throughout a restaurant, including the kitchen. Hopefully this will be addressed as they work out their new restaurant wrinkles. I wish them lots of success! |

Gone twice this week. The staff is lovely. I even got a compliment on my cologne from the waitress. She was definately reaching with her enthusiastic comments on my scent. Nice to be called out on hygenics for once. Mrs. Foley never recognizes the waft! |

Mrs. Foley is nice enough not to say anything. I am not. You smell bad. |

I went to the Diner last night and I thought the food was great. I had a gyro and it was a classic diner sandwich. All in all I would go back again and there is a funny story attached. I am sitting at one of the booths by under the bridge when, some cardboard boxes catch on fire. The SOFD drove their truck over and took care of business. Only in south orange will you find such wonderful dinner entertainment.

I've been there three times already. Very nice experience. Between the Village Diner and Parkwood Diner I may never need to eat at home again |

Matt, I don't know you, but when I smell a man's cologne at a stranger's distance, I always think "too much colongne." The waitress, however, may have really liked it. They kindly contributed to the YMCA Childcare carnival Prize Walk. Really nice guy, Manny. |

It is amazing how the last owner just did not get it. He bought a thriving business and in a matter of a few years totally killed it! And now the new owner seems to be extremely busy all the time. |

I wonder what impact the Village Diner will have on business at Texas Wieners, which is just up the street (and owned, I believe, by Manny's sister!)... -s. |

If the Texas Weiner on SO ave had any business sense they would take the lead from the Village Diner. Redo the place and they too would be just as packed. The Village Diner will bring them to town for the cuisine and can only handle so many people. If the Texas Weiner had the same appearance it would easily fill up. Another good example of if you treat the residents of our town with respect they will support your business. Maintain your business like a dump ala the Blue Moon you will fail. |

As much as a like the new Village Diner, and I *very much* do -- the food still doesn't compare with the Parkwood. Now if the Parkwood bought Texas Weiner, and brought that up to their level -- that would be great! Pete |

Parkwood, the former Sage Diner, on Springfield. Another case where the former managers ran the palce into the ground. New owners, redid the inside, food and service are great! /p |

The sad thing is that the Texas Weiner has redone a number of things in their establishment. It looks a lot better than it did 2 years ago.... They have great breakfast. Haven't been to Village Diner yet. |

Kevin, are you talking about the Texas Wiener in South Orange or the one across from Home Despot? The latter is decent with nice staff and recent renovations. |

We went to Village Diner on Sunday. Really liked the food! Spoke to the owner. He mentioned that he also owned the Texas Weiner in Union across from Home Depot. Not sure he's affiliated with the one on South Orange Ave. |
