I know it's hard to imagine that it could get any worse. Our glasses are coming out of the dishwasher cloudy again, and we use all the tricks--Glass Magic, right detergent, etc etc. It's taken a sudden turn for the worse this past week. Anybody else? |

I am going to call the water board tomorrow to ask about the quality and also about the comments below which I copied from the water quality report thread which was posted by Joel Dranove As a former Water Pollution Chemist for the NYS Field Water Pollution Laboratory, I note the absence this time of a report on the amount of coliform bacteria. In the past the amount was at the absolute upper limit. Now there are no numbers at all. The bacteria is a measure of real pollution from, e.g., droppings. I'll bet that the public wants to know. In the meantime, boil your water. jd |

altho other people complained about the taste, i was able to drink it when it was cold. now it really does taste swampy to me, too. i think it's worse. also i'm not happy we have to pay for a filter to keep the sediment out, and a water softener, as recommended by our plumber. Otherwise, he refuses to fix our leaky faucets because he says they will just start leaking again very quickly. |

Soparents, given your professional background, I'm sure quite a lot of us would be interested in your opinion about our water in addition to the point you made about coliform bacteria. Are there any other numbers that you think should be included that were left out? And do you think that the levels of various substances designated as "safe" are really safe? |

Notehead... I apologise if i gave you the impression that I have ANY kind of professional background. The posting I made above as I posted there, was one from another water quality posting from Joel Dranove (Water quality report - his posting dated May 25th 8.43pm). I have NO idea what this stuff is, all I know is that our water (ours, in our house, coming out of our pipes) is awful. To have a name like this mentioned which sounds nasty enough, partnered with the lack of quality of OUR water to MY taste/feel/smell etc, is enough to have me concerned. Again, I apologies if you felt that I was the expert or professional which I am clearly not, which is why i put down in my post that it came from another thread and was posted by JD...

You don't need to be an expert to wonder where the coliform count went. I wonder. I remember coliform bacteria live in the stomach, and some of them then make the journey to daylight. Uggh. So, will the town pay an independent business in the, e.g., nutrition analysis business, to test our water? jd |

That's a great idea, although I suspect they won't want to pay to get bad news that might require additional (expensive) actions. |

Action may include getting out of the contract. So, paying hundreds of dollars may save us millions. jd |

More likely the town will say improved water quality is "coming soon". No doubt after that excuse gets worn out, we will be essentially told "Well, we signed a contract for 10 years, and there's nothing we can do, so just live with it". One thing is certain, the water quality has deteriorated noticably over the past couple years and despite complaints, nothing has been done, and none of the trustees show any interest in solving the problem other than telling all of us to just buy whole house softeners. |

Start here, for a list of possible contaminants. Then ask the Board if they can get a report from our water company referencing each of them. http://www.epa.gov/safewater/mcl.html |
