Would someone please tell me what is entailed to secure a pet license?

What does one have to do? Is it vaccination records, etc.

You go to the health department with your pets shot records and proof that your pet is fixed. Then you fill out a little form there and pay your fee (I believe its under 20$).

Thats all

Thanks. It's not for me, but for someone who refuses to get a pet fixed. This person was given an application for a pet license, but according to the town, this person is not required by law to get the pet fixed. Can you believe that there is no law in S.O requiring a pet owner to get an animal fixed? How the heck is the cat and dog population going to stay in check if pets are aloud to roam without being fixed?

You are never required by law to fix your pet but it is illegal to have your pet roaming the street. Now with outdoor cats you might want to tell your friend that we do have quite a large stray cat population. Strays can carry feline leukemia and feline aids which gets transmitted pretty easy. If it is a female she can and probably will become pregnant and an unfixed male can get pretty beaten up by an established stray tomcat or a racoon or get run over by a car. If it is a dog it will probably end up being hit by a car or picked up as a stray. Also unless you are willing to breed on a fairly regular basis unfixed female dogs will very likely die of breast cancer at a much to early age. You can get a pet license for an unfixed pet but it cost a few dollars more. There are cheap neuter and spay clinics around here if money is an issue.
