(I tried this in soapbox but no one cared.)

SOPAC has at least 4 broken windows from presumably rocks being hurled.
Cars get scratched in places where other cars can't touch them.
One would feel a little safer going to one's car after dark.

I'm not the alarmist type, but when people feel watched, they commit less crime, right?

Cameras would not make me feel a little safer going to the car after dark. Being issued a 500,000 volt mini stun baton/handgun by the town would make me feel safer.

A camera wont stop them from rushing you if they want to rape/maim/kill/carjack you. A .45 slug in their chest would. As would 500,000 volts surging through their body.

Glock stop drinking coffee...

We had the same problem at Mountain station. I live right next to it and got so pissed (due to my car being stolen 8 times in 1 1/2 years) that I started coming outside with my 90 lbs dog and checking on noises. That made an impact. I can tell you thought that as far as I know NJ transit has cameras on their parking lots and if you call the cops and tell them of your concern they do spend alot more time in the lot.

I am all for the cameras. It might not prevent the punk but it sure as hell makes it easier identifying him/her.

oh my... 8 times!

I left my car out for a few hours one evening and caught two kids stopped in front of my house, with a flash light, looking inside. They were driving a new silver subaru hatchback too. It must be the thing to do in the hood and our very own hood wanna be's.

Bajou-
Funny about your dogs! They are so well behaved. It's hard to picture those cute dogs attacking anyone. I guess they are like my sister's. One is 180 pounds, they 'puppy' is only 90 pounds. About all her dogs will do is druel on you or sit on you if you take their seat in the van. Ever try to push a 180 pound dog off yourself?

I am all for the cameras. If we can't have 24 hours security/police presence everywhere, then put them up, but make sure they are put high enough that the same "element" can get to them and vandelise them too :-(

What is it about destroying other peoples property? Is it a jealousy thing or just plain nasty?

Yeah, I don't think it'll stop anything, but I bet there are repeat offenders that could possibly get nabbed.

Strange that it seems all are for the cameras here in SO and the identical discussion caused uproar on the Maplewood thread.

Frankly my big dog is nobodies worry as he is a granny grandpa it's my two little dogs that will get ya..LOL

Maybe a shooting over in Maplewood would affect their attitude towards security cameras.

(That's not a threat.)

What weapon? I don't have one. I said it would be nice if we were issued them for our own saftey. Well, really only the stun baton.

While cameras help with conviction of suspects...that's only if they are found...and what is needed is a plan to stop these things from happening altogether.

Glock glock...who would want to issue you a weapon. I happend to read your blog yesterday and lordy lord... You know you need an outdoor hobby.

I do enjoy your postings but sometimes you need to be a little more balanced so other people can take you seriously.

I know you are a fairly young guy and you obviously have alot of brain but emotionally you can come across as very imature sometimes.

Welcome, Sky. Its nice to see a new MOLer. And your comment about the number of police officers on duty at night is interesting. It might not be good to announce how you know that statistic, but it does seem low. Can you vouch for its accuracy?

Isn't Maplewood leading us in Shootings this year (specifically Springfield Avenue) that we know about. The News Record rarely puts in the police blotter anymore for SOuth Orange, and what is there is so watered down...Im sure our 60 some cops do more then just the 3 or 4 blurbs for the entire week...Or maybe not?

One at that bar and then one in front of Ricardi Paints?
