Subway has finally opened on South Orange Avenue (between Carvel and Sonny's Bagels).

It takes a village...

Let's see, folks complain about empty storefronts, then continue to complain when a business that - possibly, just possibly - might be able to stay in business longer than twelve months opens. What's next? Village Hall gets a much needed makeover and the conspiracy theorists rail against government spending??? Aren't y'all ever happy?

I occasionally like a subway. There is nothing wrong with them once in a while. I am HAPPY to see a storefront in our town open and doing business. I am glad that a company decided to open here, and I wish them all the luck in the world.

Bring in the next new business please......

I think it is a shame that a Subway is allowed to open in South Orange. The needs of the populace would be much better served by a nice Thai-French fusion restaurant using only organic ingredients.

Boycott Subway!!!!!!

Sorry folks---as you can see I am just learning some of the new, cooler features of MOL like uploading images---also, it's probably painfully clear to you that I was not a computer science major at Rutgers---I have now figured out the system so you can anticipate some more "visually interesting" posts from me in the future.

I hope you have enjoyed this dialogue with myself as much as I have.

Now off to Subway!

I don't mind Subway.

Unless they out price and kill the local mom and pop shops, where we already had subs available ON SOUTH ORANGE AVE.

I won't blame the Seton Hall students for going to the place with the lowest price. (Hell, I ate out at McDonalds exclusively junior year because I had a book of coupons.)

Those who would complain just need to buy their subs from Pirates Pizza and/or Village Pizzeria (is there also another?) Not to boycott Subway, but to keep the local small businesses alive.

That's my opinion on the topic.

J.B.

Understood J.B., but I don't think they are in competiton. I go to Pirate Pizza alot (probably too much!) and I just went to my first Subway yesterday. I'll continue to patronize them both.

They've done a nice job with Dawn's interior (Which I also patronized). Good to have them in town.

I was under the impression that the "new" Town Hall Deli property was slated for the Valley St. redevelope.

It reminds me of after school football games in the park. Some kid always called "Do Over!" after a play that did not please his team. Much like the plan for the village, everyone involved stood around and offered a seperate opinion. Then the kid who owned the ball, threatened to take it and go home.

Mr. Calabrese...Take Your Ball Home!

Jersey boy: What makes you think the Subway isn't owned and operated by a local businessperson? Many franchises are.

There's a lot of Subway haters on this thread. Personally, I think they've got pretty good sandwiches. And cmonty is right: just because it's a chain doesn't mean a local person isn't behind opening a new business in town. Good for Subway.

Go to the Millburn Deli, Millburn Ave next to the bridge. Order a sandwich there and then order one from a Subway.

Next case!

Subway sandwiches are a bit pricey, but there is a reason why there are 10,000s of franchises worldwide. I mustn't be the only one who likes them! Mind you, don't ask what goes into their meatballs...

I think Subway has more to fear from Quiznos (opening soon just up the block) than Millburn Deli.
