OK. Any bank which wouldn't charge me an ATM fee for taking money out of my Chase account.

I saw that Chase just opened in Milburn where Sinclair's used to be (and right next door to a Bank of New York).
I doubt it would be a commerce in the old jeans store since they tend to like to have drive-thru's.
I will ask someone on Monday if the landlord or a new tenant has notified the village that they plan to open (or if someone applied for a building permit, etc).

Cmonty-
Bank of America is already across the street. We should have two???

Also, doubt it would be Commerce. Their whole platform is as the most convenient bank. Without any parking to speak of, that story wouldn't ring true in South Orange's downtown.

I'm trying to think what bank is left that we don't already have besides Chase or some local institution.

jayjay--but there are several "urban" Commerce banks in NYC with no parking. Too bad Commerce can't take over that dingy Wachovia near 3rd street.

It isn't Commerce Bank. I checked their website.

I get the feeling the New Jersey Commerce Banks to like their banks to be 'stand alones,' meaning not part of a strip mall and with their own parking lot; at least with the branches I've to in NJ they seem that way. I also have not seen a branch without a drive thru. Off the top of my head the branches I've been to are the three on Morris Ave (two springfield, one Union); West Orange on Pleasant Valley Way; Livingston on South Livingston Ave; East Hanover on River Road; Roseland on Eisenhower Parkway; Cedar Knolls on Ridgedale Ave.

Commerce is great because they are open seven days a week including most holidays. I think Christmas, Thanksgiving, and maybe two other holiday's they are closed. The hours they're open can't be beat:

Lobby Drive-Thru

Monday - Wednesday 8:30 - 5 7:30 - 8
Thursday & Friday 8:30 - 8 7:30 - 8
Saturday 8:30 - 3 7:30 - 6
Sunday 11:00 - 4 11:00 - 4

I don't think there are enough Valley National Banks in town - I hope one can open up on the Avenue.

I passed by the open doors of the Jeans Store today and inquired what was going in there. I was informed by a lovely young woman that she is opening a womans clothing and accessories store.

FSM, tha's harsh.

Aunt, I too love commerce. Only problem is that they seem staffed with 50% numbsculls. I guess they pay poorly.

Well, I hope the clothing and accessories are nice.

Shanabana

I love Commerce! I can't stand the branch nearest Maplewood just around the bend from Home Depot. The staff at the new one on EHP in Roseland is pretty nice as the one at the end of Millburn Ave. My sister uses the one in East Hanover with the kids. They seem to like that one. I think the West Orange one is about the least favorite; but I've only been there a couple times.

I was bummed when they started to charge for money orders! My nephews always have me check for the 'freebies' for them.

I agree you in the hope a clothing and accessories store opens. We have way too many banks! You would think with all of them one could get new one dollar bills!
