How long is Calabrese in for? Is he even elected?
What's up with the benefits-for-life stuff?
I've read about tenure---who's tenured? Don't these people hold positions that one would think would end at some point?

Coup d'etat, anyone?

Why the heck are we buying the rights to reproduce that ugly thing named Tau?? I like the Gazebo and we have to leave that Tau thing there for 25 years..?

I had visions of sitting in that Gazebo at 65 with my mini laptop on my lap and posting about the fun parties at mem back in the good old days.

Bajou,

Point of clarification - the ONLY thing we aren't buying is the rights for Tau. The RIGHTS are a "gift". It is everything else we are buying.

See the "Tony Smith Sculpture FACTS" thread.

OOOPs sorry my bad. Mr. Smiths talents are not denied but it just doesn't fit at all with the redone storefronts and the gas lights..

I personally find it unattractive

Shanabana,

Calabrese is elected, but there are no term limits

John Gross is the Village Administrator & he is not elected (he is a highly paid employee). However, he is tenured AND has medical benefits for life for himself & his spouse (former Trustee Theroux)

That help?

What, exactly, does tenured mean when it comes to administrators? I understand tenure with regard to university appointments but I am having trouble wrapping my mind around the fact that as a village we are unable to hire/fire bureaucrats, especially if these are political appointees. Where I come from, city employees are generally hired on some sort of merit basis and are employees at will, much like most of us in our own jobs. (Of course, I come from MD where there is no such thing as educational or municipal tenure, and our high school teachers/principals do not get a lifetime performance pass after a couple of years , so perhaps this is just a NJ thing)

Let's throw a bunch of tea into the brook, in protest of unfair government. We'll call it " The South Orange Tau Party."

I came up with a catchy phrase, tell me what you think, "No taxation without representation." I'm open to suggestions if you don't like it.

If only someone had a printing press, or some other way to get the word out. You know, some kind of public forum for free discussion of our opinions. Oh, well, maybe it's just a pipe dream...

These are just a few ideas I've been working on. Gotta go, I think the rain has stopped and I feel the wind picking up. I'm going to fly a kite and see if we can come up something other than gaslights to illuminate our town.

You know what I always say, "early to bed, early to rise..."

A stupid question for your consideration....

Mr./Ms. Trustee, are you willing to set goals for yourself and this board which, if not met, will lead you to voluntarily not seek re-election when your term is over?

Very funny JB!!

Should it be a Tazo (or Tazu--rhymes with Tau) tea party ?

The tenure thing is wierd for a beurocrat (and this coming from a person who had three parents who were tenured at universities). Still, given the hierarchy of the beurocracy here, I'm sure they'd pass their merit reviews anyway.

When is Calabrese due for reelection?

In 315 days, but who's counting?

From and including: Tuesday, June 27, 2006
To, but not including : Tuesday, May 8, 2007

It is 315 days from the start date to the end date, but not including the end date

Or 10 months, 11 days excluding the end date

Alternative time units
315 days can be converted to one of these units:
27,216,000 seconds
453,600 minutes
7560 hours
45 weeks

MHD or anyone else who may know -

What is the basis for J. Gross and his spouse having medical care for life?

Is that what all tenured village employees get? Or is that unique to him / CFO position?

If this was all covered when the CFO/administrator switcheroo occurred, a re-direct would be fine.

SO1969 - I do not know the basis for this or if it is unique. I just know it exists.
