My bike was stolen from our yard - it was set back down the driveway with red, white and blue crepe paper streamers on the handle bars from the earlier bike parade at the field. A gray Special, woman's bike. I've had the bike for about eight years, including in NYC. Our street had been blocked off by the police for the fireworks. Thief nice enough to leave my helmet.

Where do you live? I'm thinking somewhere between Montrose and the park? Did you drive around the area to see if it might have been dumped somewhere?

And that is why you do not leave bikes in your driveway. It has happened to us before...it sucks I know.

I'm sorry to hear about your bike, but Glock is right. Back in '82 my sister borrowed my bike and left it in the garage with the door open. Later it was gone. I doubt things have changed much in the past 24 years. Sad thing is, that was the last bicycle I ever owned. Now I either walk or drive.

It was careless of me. Still creeps me out.

My bike was stolen when I was a kid growing up in South Orange. It's a right of passage.

First a bike. Then headlights... Then the whole car.

Happy fourth. Lock your doors.

I've never actually had a car stolen. Not even headlights. Of course, my headlights can be bought for $12.88 a piece, so I don't think they're gonna "walk" anytime soon.

careless or not, your shouldn't be stolen. It shouldn't matter if it's on your front lawn or in your backyard.

As some folks here have pointed out, we live in an area that's prone to crime, so we have to "get used to" these kinds of things happening from time to time. There's nothing we can do about it.

You can secure your movable property in your yard and your garage doors...We are in an area prone to property crimes. Especially during an event such as July 4th that will have abnormally heavy foot traffic on side streets.

Could have been worse, we all experience a loss every now and again.
