I just passed through Church St and noticed that a bunch of old houses had been demolished. Could this be the mysterious Calabrese/Saiyd project? Does anyone know what's going on here? |

It's actually Saiyd and Gil Slingerland. Condos or apartments, and they were granted a variance to build more units per acre than is allowed. I forget how many there will be. Very sad for me, as a dear friend lived in one of the houses until 2001; it was great having her & her family right across the street! |

So, this is more buildings off the tax roles, a special break for someone who has not proven himself as a bona fide developer on his other properties, and another vacant parcel to add to the list until who knows when. Have I got this right? BTW, who is Gil Slingerland? |

Jay Jay: Although he doesn't develop much in South Orange, Gil Slingerland is an accomplished developer. He was part of Jessica Lane (or whatever that is) off Prospect as well as condos in Maplewood and million dollar homes in Warren. Do not fear that the process will drag on. Also, he is an attorney is Maplewood who is always highly recommended on MOL when recommendations are sought for a real estate attorney. Originally the property was only three houses, so the taxes will be increased significantly once all the units are built. Also, the properties have been vacant for quite a whil, so if demolition has occured, it's because work is about to begin. |

Has this one gone through without PILOTs? |

JayJay, no you don't have "this" right, but it is so much fun to assume theworst, even when you know nothing, isn't it? |

No PILOT that I'm aware of. However, even though the BOT changed the height restriction after discussions betwen residents mostly on Ridgewood and the developer, I wasn't aware that anything had gone before the Planning Board yet. Can anybody confirm whether the plan has been approved by the Planning Board? |

I think a plan was approved by the Planning Board. I recall a variance had to be granted for the number of parking spaces. But no PILOT. |

Why does this development require a parking variance, but not the new market? |

I agree with Fiche's comments about Gil Slingerland and his ability to see a project through. South Orange should take a lesson from him on the proper way to handle a development project. |
