You haven't seen? They have now constructed a huge pile of dirt in the middle of the site. When they said construction would begin, nobody said it would be construction of a BUILDING.

I saw a few large trucks parked at angles that were slightly different from when I saw them last time.

Maybe the BOT can shed some light on this at the meeting tomorrow. After all, we don't want to jump to any conclusions....

Do I also recall our VP saying that he should have some news for us at this meeting regarding Saiyd?

He said it was very big news.
So big, I thought it might be that he was resigning.

What's "big" is the amount of time that has elapsed.

The lawyer for Beifus said they would be going full blast after approval was received from the county. Construction would be completed in 14 - 18 months, depending on the weather. The VP announced a few weeks ago that approval had been received from the county. OK, it was a little cloudy at times today.

Maybe Gerry Andrews can call the lawyer for Beifus to see if any units are left.

Status report given by the VP at tonight's BOT meeting:

Beifus is waiting for the construction crew to show. Once they do, construction will start.

In case anyone wants to see the "update" for themselves:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nv-m-BohPk

According to Calabrese, the building will "go straight up". However during the Planning Board Hearings, Beifus' own attorney said construction will take around 18 months.

Watching Monday's update, I had a sudden deja vu & them remembered this update from THREE months ago:

"Waiting for the construction crew to show up ..."

$18 million of private funding to support this monumental project and yet Mr. Beifus has no idea when his crew is showing up.

Here's my update ... never.

I will be there at 7.59 (us English do like punctuality...) and i'll be finished by 8.45am, what would you like done after that?

I have to admit, it does seem rather strange that they are waiting for the crew? A rather lame excuse, it reminds me of British Rails pathetic excuses for delays, such as leaves on the track, and the all time classic, wrong kind of snow...... no-one believed them either...

A Parking Nightmare on Elm Street, local version:

When all thought demon Freddy Kreugerese, the town progress slasher, was finished, after he promised development peace is coming soon again, and while all were happily waiting for SOPAC to open, some felt a stirring, a soft unease, a parking nightmare on Elm Street.

Freddy wasn't really done, he wasn't dead-dy. Kreugerese decided the town must buy the Beifus property for parking spots, and the town must float more bonds to pay for the paving of the lot, or many souls wouldn't sleep peacefully, ever again.

But, Freddy had promised the town that harmony and peace were "coming soon." And he was troubled, for peace was not in his nature. His friend, Beifuseuger, owns the parking site, and the Russian mob respects the site since Freddyese cut a path to their clubhouse door. So, Drew Beifuseuger has a plan, for him and Freddy.

Drew says: my construction crew can't be located. [They had been sliced and diced by Kreugerese, but that is another story.]

Beifuseuger thought it must have been an immigration round up, or bad road directions that delayed his construction crew, but, they were in little pieces, in the South Mountain Reservation; it was blamed on the Russians, but it was another Kreugerese moment.

At a loss, B said to K: Please take my property, for a price, a very high price, a price the residents will bleed to pay. When Freddy Kreugerese hears bleeding to pay, well, he feels a warm, tingling sensation all over, the hunt is on!!!

Beifuseuger holds out for the highest price possible, and Kreuger tells his acolytes, the BOT, we are strangling in traffic, and need money for that parking lot.

But, much to Kreugerese's dismay, the BOT makes a clean break, and sells the Tau to the Saudi royal family for 100 million dollars, and uses the proceeds to engorge Freddy's friend Drew's bank account, and paves paradise and puts up a gold leaf parking lot.

However, kids, since Drew really likes Freddy, and all Freddy really wanted was to be liked, Drew and Freddy live happily everafter.

Now children, drink your milk, and go to sleep.

SOparents,

For your next task, can you please mow the grass that is now growing on the Beifus site? It has been sitting dormant without any activity for so long that grass is now growing there.

Maybe it's natures way of saying enough is enough...

After all, there is an old saying about inactivity which is something like "never letting grass grow under our feet"...

Still, if you feel that you want the pretty grass taken away and the piles of dirt having pride of place again, I will grab the strimmer and mosey on down..

Anything for my town, you know that

Drove past the Beifus site today & the gate was open, but NO CONSTRUCTION was occurring. (and the grass growing on the dirt pile is getting long. I wonder if they will get a summons for not maintaining their property?)

By the way..NO CONSTRUCTION at Shop Rite, Vose Ave or Sayid either!

If you want to see progress, go to Livingston.

The town is great. Nice shops, adequate parking, little sandwich places, and no ugly piles of dirt.

Red Alert:

I agree that Livingston has made great progress. Hopefully one of these days the Village can get some real developers in place, such as what has occured in Livingston, which appears to be the key to moving projects along. Unfortunately the government in this town is afraid to make the decisions necessary to move projects along, as they would rather sit on the fence and not offend anyone, which may be optimal in their eyes, but unrealistic as far as progress within South Orange is concerned. Until our elected officials are willing to make such tough decisions without worrying about ruffling some feathers, we will be left to watchg other towns progress while South Orange remains stagnant.

It's all about leadership. East Orange has it, and South Orange for the most part doesn't. Unfortunately the ones who care are outnumbered by the ones who either don't show up or don't have the best interests of the town as a priority.
