I'm surprised nobody has posted about the small article on the front page of today's Snooze Wreckered! It says our wonderful Village President is unsure he will seek re-election next year. Says he knows he's done a lot of good for the village blah blah blah. Mentiones how tough it is to be a widow raising two children while running a busy business. Anyone else hearing the violins? |

It may be what you call a rear guard action to recover his good name. |

One could not be blamed for being sympathetic to Mr. Calabrese's family situation. Perhaps he'd like to spend more time with his family sooner rather than later? |

I thought this was common knowledge and that Art Taylor would try to take his place. |

Stuart0628, one can be sympathetic to Mr. Calabrese's family and recognize he has been disastrous for the town. A good father does not necessarily mean the same person is a good Village President. You might feel the same way if John Roberts, Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court, tried to give you a heart transplant. |

Yes, Stuart0628. Busy day. Sorry for my dull-witted reading of your post. Wouldn't the sooner option be great? But I'm not holding my breath. Then again, extradition from Germany may be difficult. |

He says he will decide by the end of August, per the News Wretched. Is this just like how he said he would let villagers know about his deal with Saiyd in 2 weeks time, about 6 weeks ago? |

If ever there was reason start a chain e-mail to every voter in South Orange, this video is it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FHUFJTw9gA. Proposed Title: "Aspiring Village President Who Has Absolutely No Respect for Concerned Residents."

If we want to talk about respect, perhaps we should ask our Village Attorney to show some to an elected trustee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkjqWVVQBUI&mode=related&search= Kudos to Eric for keeping his cool. |

Idea: let's drop waxing on about anyone's family on this board. If you think someone is a sh*thead or maybe think another person is great, keep it to the individual. ps:my family jhas no control over how much of an idiot I am. |

It's all so depressing. So much money in S.O. So few adequate administrators. So many, many problems. It's daunting to know where to even begin. |

You raise an interesting point, Tuxedo. It's been said that one of the reasons corruption is so rampant in N.J. is that with so many municipalities (566), there are a lot more individuals involved that can be corrupted. Also, with so many officials and employess required, there can't be that many competent people to fill all the positions. I think Chris Christie mentioned this last year at the time of the Monmouth County FBI sting operation, and Allan Karcher talks about it in his book "Municipal Madness." |

Tuxedo, I used to feel that way also. Many people do. But if you don't stop them they will make your life in SO worse. This is guaranteed. Many are small time bullies that need to be broken up. If you don't find a way to stop them, they will continue rolling over the town. Even a small effort is added to those of others who will magnify it in the whole. Take heart. Then take up your chosen weapons. |

From the original NR article:
Quote:William R. Calabrese, who has led South Orange for 16 years, said Tuesday that he has not decided whether to seek another term as village president. He declined to say which way he was leaning, but added he would decide by the end of August. His term expires next year. Calabrese, a widower bringing up two children, has a full plate on top of his duties as village president. He operates a pharmacy across the street from Village Hall. He spoke with pride of helping turn South Orange around. “ This town was dead,” he said.
So....it's the end of August, I wonder if Calabrese has decided to run next year? Please run, Bill. We really need you! |

With the BOT on vacation for the month of August, there has been nothing "fun" to discuss here on MOL. Could you imagine what will happen to MOL if Calabrese isn't there the other 11 months? What will we possibly talk about? Please run, Bill. We really need you! |

His vision (!) lives on. I have a dream. A dream where my three children will live in a town which is not half razed to the ground. A town where the fire department contractor doesn't go bankrupt. A town where one of the four prime corners does not impose its barrenness upon us for years. A dream where the second prime corner does not lie ugly and plywood covered, graffiti scarred, for years. A dream where private deals without public bidding lead to arrest and prosecution. A dream where the board of trustees meet between public meetings, so that they can learn what the town administrator, town lawyer and town druggist have decided to do, privately, before it is too late. I have a dream that elections will be held when national elections are held, so that many more voters, voters not beholden to the druggist, cast their votes. Until then, I will speak to the board, and at least two of them will, on occasion, scream at me. I have a dream that the empowered one who threatens to arrest me when I speak, or clap inappropriately, then laughs uncontrollably, finally admitting it is all a dream. jd
