That was the best Arts in Da Park ever. Wife & I rocked out. Real crisp sound and that beutiful voice. Bonus: I got to meet Janis Ian by the Porta John during the intermission. I think we even selected the same booth (karma)!!!! good job SO Rec. & Cult. |

I'd put her right up there with Richie Havens, Dar Williams, & The Nields. The woman can flatout pick, too! And, in a certain way, she reminds of another of my favorite short Jewish singer-somngwriters: Paul Simon. What a great evening for a concert! Classic South Orange. -s. |

she sounded amazing - I was telling friends that my mom bought "Between The Lines" when I was a little kid & I listened to it a lot - she sounded as good or better tonight. |

A nice nod to her home state, too, with John Gorka's anthem... -s. |

Well, that wzas superb. Amazing how a nice folk concert can bring out so many people. Doesn't always have to be Jazz! And you couldn't of picked a better performer. I was at a "house concert" with her earlier this year. Whether playing for 25 or 2500 she is the best. And super nice as well. Thank you AITP and thank you Judy. |

Wonderful evening.. Janis was great! I visited her website just now, there are links to download free MP3's, and if so inclined, donate some funds to The Pearl Foundation, named for her mother. go to www.janisian.com click on music, then free downloads, some great music there. I wonder how many other MOL'ers were there tonight?

I think for next summer we should buck up and have a few more of these type shows. Tonight solidified for me the true feeling of South Orange. I don't wish to wax too weepy herein. That said, I am still on a euphoric trip from the cool neighborly vibe from tonight. |

I wish I could have been in two places at once, but we picked the free Little Feat concert in Battery Park instead. It totally rocked and was gorgeous night. |

I was there and totally loved it. I had been looking forward to it for weeks, mentioning it to everyone that came into the shop. "Between the Lines" was/is one of my all-time favorite albums and it really surprised me when she took so much from there last night. Happy. |

She really was great, and a perfect summer evening to sit outdoors with friends and neighbors. BTW, does anyone know where she lives? She seemed to have the inside scoop on the friendly M/SO rivalry (thinking of the changed lyrics in her encore). |

I think she was prepped by Judy W., or perhaps by LibraryLady??? BTW, what did you think of the new stage backdrop? On the one hand, (A) it's wider and snazzier than the original "Arts In The Park" version:
and (2) it's clearly a big step in the "branding"' of The Baird
... ...But I kinda miss the "smalltown" look of the funky old one. I guess I'm just sentimental... -s. |

Me too, Soda. The old one brings back great memories. Janis lives in Nashville but grew up in East Orange. I think the SO/Maplewood rilvalry was well know even then. |

Janis Ian-what a great show!!!! We went because I remembered her from my youth. Although I remembered her being rather depressing...I was so impressed with the quality of her music and her personality as well as her terrific voice. What charisma she has...and now that I am older and wiser I will re-listen to some of her earlier stuff with more mature ears and hear the music again. Thank you SO for a wonderful evening!!
