I've found 4 of these babies in my house, and I was wondering if anyone else had them, if it's a common South Orange thing, and how to get rid of them. If you don't know what they are, you've don't have them. Big, scary looking, yellow and black crickets. http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/ent/notes/Urban/images/camelcricket2a.jpg |

Yep- got 'em! They're all around, they don't bite, they don't hurt anything, they love water/damp places (basements). Don't know how to get rid of 'em, though. Never saw them till we came to SO. |

Check this out if you are into DIY - http://www.bugspray.com/articles98/camelcrickets.html The lengthy article in the above link has convinced me that these crickets are not merely scary-looking and inconvenient, but are a real problem that needs to be addressed sooner than later. Or for "the guy" to come do it I recommend - A-Eastern Pest Control (973) 736-5041 I actually now DYI after watching what my exterminator did to control the problem. BTW, a question like this is usually in the Please Help or the Home Fix-It sections. If MOL's Search feature worked the way we all know a Search feature CAN work, you'd find this topic has been discussed a lot - you are not alone! Good luck!

From above link: "...they jump randomly and are more likely to jump at you than away from you." Yuck! Crickets are the ugliest insect (except Jiminy). |
