I've found 4 of these babies in my house, and I was wondering if anyone else had them, if it's a common South Orange thing, and how to get rid of them.

If you don't know what they are, you've don't have them. Big, scary looking, yellow and black crickets.

Yep- got 'em! They're all around, they don't bite, they don't hurt anything, they love water/damp places (basements). Don't know how to get rid of 'em, though. Never saw them till we came to SO.

Check this out if you are into DIY -

http://www.bugspray.com/articles98/camelcrickets.html

The lengthy article in the above link has convinced me that these crickets are not merely scary-looking and inconvenient, but are a real problem that needs to be addressed sooner than later.

Or for "the guy" to come do it I recommend -

A-Eastern Pest Control (973) 736-5041

I actually now DYI after watching what my exterminator did to control the problem.

BTW, a question like this is usually in the Please Help or the Home Fix-It sections. If MOL's Search feature worked the way we all know a Search feature CAN work, you'd find this topic has been discussed a lot - you are not alone! Good luck!

From above link: "...they jump randomly and are more likely to jump at you than away from you."

Yuck! Crickets are the ugliest insect (except Jiminy).

Ticks are definitely worse...since they can attach themselves to you. I've had at least 6 of them on me like that at once...big ugly...grass ticks...ugh *shudder*
