OK Whats up with this mickey mouse operation? My 22 year old daughters' car battery died at 2:40 am on Prospect St. in S.O. We tried to call it in to the police to avoid a ticket and they tell us they don't take car calls after 2 AM. So, in other words, there is NO WAY to avoid a summons in this case? He told me to go to court and fight the ticket. WTF? What is the point of this ridiculousness? I don't get it. |

I guess you have to stay in your car and sleep in order to avoid a ticket... That is crazy, let us know how it goes |

Notes on the car will work well. I’ve put notes on my car saying exactly why the car is parked there after 2am. “To drunk to drive, please don’t ticket” “Not getting off train till 2:30” “Stupid girlfriend lost keys, will get car first thing in the morning” I’ve never gotten a ticket.

So did you actually get a ticket or are you just bitching? Just because you don't understand this "mickey mouse" operation doesn't mean there's no point to it If the ordinance is that there's no parking between 2 and 6 am why would they allow someone to ask permission after that? What's to say you didn't already get a ticket and was just calling it in to cover your tracks? BTW, did you explain to them that the car was disabled? Many times they don't even have (physically) somewhere to write your info down after that 2 am mark because one of those parking authority guys that we all love so much would have taken the book with them out on the road. |

Phew... I took a couple deep breaths, did some meditation, and now I can go on..... K-Yes, I was just bitching. In fact, we just went to get the car and there was no ticket, how I LOVE the SO cops now. I was just so surprised by the fact that the guy kept telling me they don't take car calls after 2. I asked him how was my daughter suppossed to know at 2 that her care would break down in 40 minutes, she was on the train. He was kind of snippy with me, and I was kind of snippy that it was 3 AM and I was having a good dream... but whatever, it all worked out. I still think it makes no sense that you cannot report a disabled vehicle after 2. Thanks for the vent space. |

k_soze - crappy attitude. Heart rn has a completely valid point - if it had been your car broke down at 2:40am, you'd probably feel differently. Why would she try to cover her tracks? Tickets have times on them, so they would know that she was calling AFTER the ticket was written. Also, I'm sure she would tell them the car was disabled, that was the whole point in the call - not to leave the car overnight for no reason. |

I think the problem here is with the whole system of "calling in a car" to the police. I doubt the police department couldn't get a hold of the town's parking enforcement officer at that time of the night. However, in their defense, I think they have to weed through a lot of people trying to take advantage of the policy. I am pretty sure that they hear, "MY CAR BROKE DOWN" at least 20 times a night from SHU students. |

Fair enough! My thing was legit though which is why I was so perturbed. But I see your point. I have several generations of S.O. police in my family anyway, so I am sorry I bashed them. |

They can't take car calls after 2am because the cops and parking authority officers are all already out on the road with their lists of cars that have permission to be parked there. If they allowed people to call in cars after that, tey would have to notify everyone on the road the new cars info. That might not be a big deal if it's just you... but what if 3 people call in cars? What about 5? They have to have a cut-off time. |
