I drove past the former Kiwi's / Mazar Kebob House / Wentworth Bakery yesterday and noticed that the building has been torn down and only the facade is standing. This might have been done within the past few months, it doesn't look like it just happened.

This building has been owned by Sayid since 2002.

Does he have a grand plan for rebuilding or did he tear it down like Beifus tore down his building so that he only has to pay tax on the land?

Actually, It was probably here on MOL where I heard that Sayid is the most delinquent taxpayer in the Village, so why bother lowering your tax bill when you won't be paying anyway?

Unless, oh perceptive and young one, it affects our taxes.
Then, and only then, if the public wakes up.
So, on balance, you are correct.

Does the law require that we tax a tear-down on the land value only, rather than the value of the property before the owner "unimproved"? Can we remove tax consequences as an incentive to tear down fast and build up slow?

And if that's the law, can it be changed going forward or are there constitutional reasons why it can't?

Evidently he's building a mixed use space with several storefronts on the lower level with new apartments on the upper floor(s).

Dranove: One building won't significantly affect your taxes.

Will this new Saiyd Plaza resemble the Saiyd Plaza on South Orange Ave that we heard so much about at BOT meetings and in the Gaslight in years past? Just what we need, another white fence.

I went to the Polo Grounds and attended Sunday double-headers between the Mets and Dodgers, starting in the year 1.
And you.

Joel,

The last time I went to the Polo Grounds was to see the Titans.

Jim Katcavage, Dick Modzelewski, and Andy Robustelli once spoke at my high school assembly.

And the first president I remember was "Ike"

Wow!
Back to taxes:

Sayid also torn down a bldg. he and/or his controlled entities own on SO Avenue, and the Beifus site coincidentally burned and was razed.

Years of non tax-paying, and no end in site.

So, a building here, a building there, or: a non-building here.... and you have a financial impact, and a go-ahead to others to do unto us as the BOT allows.

Question -- Does Sayid own any other buildings in the Irvington Avenue Business District?

Is Sayid planning to redevelop the north side of Irvington Avenue?
Has he approached the Planning Board, Board of Adjustment, or BOT with plans to do so?

What ever happened to the house that Sayid purchased on Scotland Road? I believe some folks were "suspicious" with how he aquired it and the relationships of people involved. Does he live there? Rent it? Is it vacant?

Dunhill Manor has been vacant for some time now - you can tell by the discarded tub and other garbage that now graces the driveway.

Wouldn't a tub in the driveway violate some code? Where is our code enforcer on this one?

That's a shame. It's such a nice house. Hopefully it's not falling apart on the inside and he plans on doing something with it soon.

MRosner, have any permits been pulled on this property? Are there plans for it?

Sean: I was told he did get permits.
Jayjay: I know code enforcement was asked to check out the property and the permits. I will ask for a follow-up.
buddybak: That has been his intended plan for quite some time. It appears he has the same ability to develop a property as Mr. Beifus.

Maryann: He has not approached the BOT. I know that he did approach the plannning board, but I do not think he made any formal application (to them or the BOA). I think he might have discussed the property with the VP but that information has not been shared with the BOT.

mrosner: does the BOT have an idea of what Sayid plans to do with the Scotland Road property? Is it residential or commercial zoned? Or duel use?

Not sure if you would be privy to this info via permit requests.

Sean: No clue what the plans are for that property. I thought that property was zoned residential, but it might be dual use.

duel use

We need more property in South Orange where we can hold duels. Or maybe we should confine them to the Board Room.

As you know, Sayid always makes his positions clear at BOT meetings.
So, just ask him.
