Since moving to the new house, our trash pick-up has been spotty at best. I've talked with Donna down at SOD and she straightens it out, even sending out a guy to get our stuff, but then...it's back to no pick ups. We never had this problem at the old house, and now I'm getting pissed. Has anyone else had this problem with them? |

oh, yeah.... The search function is misbehaving at the moment, but next time it's working, look for "South Orange Disposal", "trash nazis", or "SOD". Lots of complaints, no long-term fixes. |

Kibbegirl, because the MOL search function doesn't seem to work, it may be easiest to access the most recent rounds in this very loooooonnng discussion. Another new resident, Virtual It Girl, asked about SOD in a thread on recycling and garbage disposal, started on August 9. You might want to read through it. (Maybe someone can provide the link on this thread?) Try calling T. Farese to pick up your garbage. You can choose between once or twice a week. Because SOD routinely overcharges people, Farese charges about the same as or less than SOD, but is better managed with better service. |

It might also have something to do with the holiday on monday, as we haven't had a picup since last week. |

Shanabana, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Because of the holiday, we all know we won't have pick-ups and that should mean that we receive pick-ups immediately afterwards. I have resorted to putting things in my garage, covering it with bleach or ammonia to keep the critters away, and hoping for the best. That's not right.

Who is T. Farese? I don't think I've ever heard of him before. Does he work with SOD or does he have his own trash company? What are his fees? Can I still get my recyclables picked up by SOD if we used him? THANKS! |

If your pick-up day is a holiday, all your trash is picked up the next collection day. The only suggestion I have is that they should rotate the M-th, T-Fri and Wed-SAt schedule as those of us with a Monday pickup have more delayed collections. But the trash is always picked up. Are you suggesting that the SOD do TWO routes, (a double shift) the day after a holiday? Don't this hard workers deserve a day off just like the rest of us? |

if i were a garbage collecter and i reached in and picked up something dripping with bleach or ammonia, I think i would sue! don't they make lids that lock out raccoons? are you worried about bugs?? they aren't as harmful as chemicals. |

Kibbegirl, I'm not sure why a town librarian and employee has decided to defend a garbage company repeatedly sanctioned by the the State of NJ for illegal activity that hundreds in town have had trouble with, but the information you requested is available in the thread I referenced. It is easy to find among the threads in the SO section. Look for ones started on August 9. And yes, SOD routinely and illegally overcharges hundreds if not thousands of residents in SO, a fact that is neither libel nor slander. |

By the time I get a pick up, the bleach and the ammonia poured onto my BAGS and not into the bins, is dried up. I would not harm anyone with cleaning products. |

SOrising: Why do you refuse to reveal the pricing for T. Farese? I seem to recall you hedging when asked about that in the earlier thread, too.

Holidays are holidays -- come on! The same amount of trash gets picked up, just a bit later. While I had some billing issues with SOD (after their computer system was hacked), other than perhaps 1 or 2 missed pick ups years ago, they have been very reliable. Having service that picks up the cans vs having to take them to the street is a big plus. That said, I still wish we had other choices in town -- IMO competition would offer more choices and likely lower prices. /p |

It would be cool to see dueling garbage collection companies duking it out street to street, block to block. Full contact garbage collection now! I for one have never had a problem with the company. They had that one glitch a while back and when I called them about it I was like "hey, I'm calling about the problem" and they were like "yeah we know, we're sorry, please ignore the bill" or whatever the problem was, I don't even remember at this point the specifics about it. But to read about it here you would have thought it was the biggest scandal to surface since Watergate or something. I think the one legitimate gripe is the poor folks who have Monday pickups, they do get shortchanged with fewer pickups in the year for the same amount of $$. However I believe the real culprit is the mass movement of nearly all midweek holidays to their nearest Monday - stop the madness already! Can't we have midweek holidays any more? |

pete - if I'm not mistaken, a point of the other threads on SOD was that other service providers are permissible. Farese apparently is one such other choice. What I'd like to know is.... are there really more companies allowed? And who might they be? 'cause, though I haven't huge dissatifaction, knowing options would be good. [especially since this function isn't part of SO town services in the first place. but... that's another peeve...] |

I started the thread stating that since we moved into our new home, there have been several problems with our trash pick up. Never a problem at our old home and that to me is peculiar. Also, I also stated that Donna can and does clear the problem, but...the gripe I had is that if I'm paying for trash pick up, then I want my trash PICKED UP. I don't want to store it in my garage and/or basement because they did not pick it up. I pay for this service, we all do, and I want it to work. |

New guys except for one. The one I recognized, I spoke to him about them not picking up our trash and he said he would "talk to his guy" about passing over our house. Granted, our house was under full construction for many months and I had not yet set up service. Once we had a move date, I set up service and even greeted the guys on the route that morning just to see if I recognized anyone and also to let them know we were now living there. |

You keep promoting the business, and saying that South Orange Disposal regularly cheats its customers, but you won't tell us what this new Super Wonderful Garbageman costs. How about this: You post the phone number, I'll call them, and report back here exactly what they tell me. Unless there's some reason you don't want folks to know what they charge? You've already said they charge "about the same or less than" the $62 a month South Orange Disposal charges for twice-weekly pickup. I'd just like to pin it down a bit more specifically before I make the switch.
