I was driving through South Orange today, and my wife said, "are they still planning to ruin this with that stupid sculpture?" (Her, not me.)

So, what's the haps?

JB,

Nope...it's not "dead". The latest "plan" is to have the sculpture installed in Meadowlands Park and have the taxpayers pay only $170,000 for it (instead of the original $250,000+).

No specific designs have been presented, but this "plan" was proposed at the BOT Meeting on July 24: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoPyQt7fYRM

I still haven't figured out *where* in Meadowlands Park it's going to go. Unless they plan to cut down trees. Grove Park seems like a better place.

End the dream about copying an original, and, thereby, limit our damages.
Spend the saved monies on libary repairs and on a town publication about our fiscal condition!

At least they aren't going to trash the gazebo. That idea was untenable.

Oh good grief. More of them twisting the facts. I'll ask again, where in Meadowlands Park is this going? Do they mean the same side of the brool as the Comminity Center or the side with the hill?

JTA,

I don't think the specific location has been "announced". However, my understanding of the approximate location based on the presentation on July 24 is it will be somewhere around the intersection of Mead & Ridgewood. I guess we have to wait to find out the exact location and why we are still expected to pay $170,000 of tax dollars for this.

That's what I thought. If they put it there though, they'd have to cut the trees down. I don't think would go over too well; would it?

How could we stop them from taking out trees, JTA?

Not sure SOrising. But if I remember correctly within the past year or so there were some discussions about cutting down trees and something about the Village not allowing it except for certain situations. I think it's sad they want to cut down some of the few trees in that part of the park to replace them with a big dark sculpture.

That's why Grove seems like a better place. There are plenty of spots large enough where it can go without cutting down trees.
