Quick story-- Coming back from the Thanksgiving Maplewood vs South Orange football game yesterday-(We lost 4-2)- I parked in front of my house-- facing the wrong way because there were leaves blocking the other side of the road (they have been there for 2 weeks) and I was just going to be 5 minutes. A nice SO police offer wrote me a ticket. In this same spot 6 months ago my car was stolen--
To recap-- a SO police offer gave me a parking ticket in front of my house ON THANKSGIVING because I couldn't park on the correct side of the road because of a pile of leaves on my street

You should have beaten Maplewood- then, you might have gotten a pass.

Why not park properly...is it that difficult to turn the car around?

Apparently, it's even harder than beating Maplewood in football. BTW, where do you get a 4-2 score in football? 2 safeties versus 1?

Maybe you can go to the police station and ask for a "Do Over".

check, no fakes!

skay,

so you are upset with the police department beccase you were too lazy to park your car legally?

and your also mad at the police department because they were unable to stop the theft of your car? just a question, was your car parked on the street when it was stolen? and was it parked there overnight?

Did you actually talk with the police? If not, how do you think they knew you were only inside for 5 mins?

And I'm also not clear on why you had to park facing the wrong way... the entire other side of the block was covered with leaves, or just the area in front of your house?

Why wasn't a ticket issued 6 months ago, too? Perhaps a retroactive summons is in order?

great stuff-- you guys should go on the road. A few clarifications which is sure to generate more belly laughs:
I came out to talk to the policeman as soon as I saw him writing and said if you came out a minute earlier....
I parked on the street six months ago because I was doing major construction that blocked my driveway and parked overnight. I also have never seen a police car on my street so it was quite frustrating to see one 5 minutes after I parked. And yes for the amount of taxes we pay the town should rake and bag our leaves every day!!
It was a charity football game played every thanksgiving between Maplewood and SO residents and since we cannot attempt extra points we keep TD scores as 1 not 6.

Skay,

All kidding aside, your experience with the ticket was self-inflicted. Some points to mull:

1) It's just as easy to park legally (facing the flow of traffic) on either side of the street, leaves or not.
2) It may be Thanksgiving, but not everyone is free to play football and dine with family; some people work.
3) You don't know how often police drive down your street unless you sit on your porch non-stop.
4) The police did not steal your car; in fact, they probably recovered it for you.
5) For the taxes we pay, it would be nice if if the Town valet parked your car for you, but that's not happening.
6) Perhaps you should have considered the Thanksgiving occasion and expressed some gratitude for you all you have; instead, you chose to "accentuate the negative". Maybe someone is sending you a message on a Cosmic Level.
7) My first point still stands; you should have beaten Maplewood.

skay,

so i guess you have learned several valuable lessons here:

1: you never know where the police are or how often they drive down your street.

2: parking legally is something that is most likely worth the extra 5 minutes it takes to avoid a ticket.

3: parking your car in the street overnight regardless of the reason puts your vehicle at not only higher risk for damage but also theft.

e roberts-
hahahahaha about parking on the street leaves your vechile at higher risk of being stolen. 15 years ago today my three day old car was stolen from my driveway, BEHIND my house.

OTOH the car I had before that was stolen when it was 6 weeks old, from in front of my house. The worse thing about it both cars were stolen within about 9 months of each other!

just,

in general your car is at a much higher risk if it is out on the street as opposed to in your driveway for several reasons. the most simple is that it is more difficult to access and locate there then on the street, with the addition to motion lights set on your driveway this should deter many thieves.

however of course some cars such as audi's, jeeps, bmws, hondas, toyotas and of course xeon headlights will be taken no matter what.

in general however parking your car in your driveway not in the street overnight provides much more protection from your vehicle.

Maybe you should be thankful you have police who are still out patrolling an actual neighborhood on a holiday.

Funny you mention Honda's! That's what I have now and I've not liked it since the day I bought it. I wish someone would steal it!!! The cars stolen were both Z 24's.

skay- you made a mistake! I'd just pay the ticket. why didn't you park in the driveway?

IF that were someone else's car parked like that in front of YOUR HOUSE I bet you would have called the police to ticket THAT car. We all get parking tix, deal with it.

I live across the street from a cop. He frequently parks his car (and his cop car) facing the wrong way on the street. He is not on official business. He is simply at home. Interesting, eh?

no, thank you. I am not going to tell a cop he is breaking parking rules. It doesn't bother me that he occasionally parks on the wrong side of the street. Besides, I don't want cause problems. It isn't worth spoiling an otherwise friendly relationship.

If you want to tell him, be my guest.
