I noticed in the last Gaslight that there's a new toy store in town. I think it's called Joggin' the Noggin', or something to that effect. Checked it out today, and it's got a surprisingly good selection of toys for such a small space--specifically, the back half of the General Store right next to Hot Bagels Abroad on SO Ave. I found a board game there that I had only seen before in California, plus there were lots of neat looking big toy dinosaurs in the front window. Definitely worth a look-see for holiday shopping! |

Great. What other stores would you like to see in the village?

Also a new one on Springfield Avenue that carries high quality toys. Plus crafts, books etc. Nice to see new businesses coming around. |

The one on Springfield Avenue is really nice. We found a lot of things we had not seen since being in Europe. And really cool kids books. Glad to see things are up and coming. |

Its near Prospect. Its called Wooden You Know. The owners are very nice and helped me with the websites to order some toys I was looking for that they didn't stock. The store in SO is a great find (took some searching but has some wonderful stuff). |

"What other stores would you like to see in the village?" You playing Santa? Well for starters, Pizzaz, I'd like an Ethiopean restaurant. And then a couple of quality chain outfits like Crate and Barrel and Williams Sonoma. An affordable children's shoe store might be nice, particularly if it sells socks. And I want a first rate bookstore that caters to people with an academic mindset, and I want an Indian restaurant that serves Goan and other southern Indian food, and I want a gift shop that features local and regional artisans, along the lines of Tenth Muse in Maplewood. And then what I'd really like is an ethnic market like the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market in Philly, or the Reading Terminal Market. Did you get all that down? I'm Jewish, you know, and tonight is the last night of Chanukah. I realize I'm submitting my list a little late and I don't want to be unreasonable. So do you think you could put the package together for me by around this time next year? |

I want a high quality SUPERMARKET!! And I would like some place where I could buy a pair of socks or a bra or a pair of gloves. If we can't get a supermarket, I think that we should tear down the old shoprite and turn the site into a park. The same goes for the Beifus site. At least it wouldn't be so unsightly, and somehow, whenever there's a park that people love to use, some one wants to build a store on it--so maybe we'll eventually get what we want that way. |

J. Crohn, hope your wishes come true! For children's shoes (sneakers) and I think socks, Village Sports. For socks maybe Rite Aid? |

No, not Santa, just a polite question from this rebellious Catholic. J. Crohn, why don't you make one of your wishes come true? You may like it. A First Class bookstore sounds good to me. |

Brett, It's more or less all "curried" (i.e., stewed with a spice mixture) except that the predominant seasoning for meat dishes (berbere) is made of paprika, cloves, garlic, ginger, onions, hot chillies, and a few other spices. Vegetables and lentils are cooked in spiced oil or butter. Entrees are served over a spongey, crepe-like bread called injera, extra pieces of which are also served on the side. Injera is used to scoop up mouthfuls of stewed lamb, chicken, beef, or vegetables; no utensils are used, and the food is served all on one plate that you share with your dinner companions. A lot of Ethiopean restaurants are byob (including a nice one in Montclair on Bloomfield Ave. called Mesob, which my husband and I discovered recently), but some in the city serve drinks. The food can be very spicy, but it isn't always. |

The one on SO Ave is inside the General store, across from Dancing Goat. (Never been but I've seen the signs.) |

I went into the toy store on S.O. Ave. on Christmas Eve morning to get last-minute gifts. The guy was nice and he gift-wrapped them. Selection seemed decent for a small store (it is its own separate store, in the back of the general store). The guy said he moved from Randolph. I encourage people to stop by. |

Here's another vote for a bookstore. I was in the used bookstore in Montclair last week, and seeing how crowded its shelves are becoming, wish they'd open a satellite store here in SO. Oh to dream.... |

As a kid, i think there is nothing more creepier than a toy store in the back of a cigar shop. Adults: Please be on alert Did anyone see Diff'rent Strokes Season # 5 episodes: 5-16 & 5-17 Originally aired Feb 5th 1983 & Feb 12th 1983 It was titled, "The Bicycle Man" http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/GuidePageServlet/showid-601/epid-27221/ http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/GuidePageServlet/showid-601/epid-27222/
