Just received the most recent Gaslight which notes the hiring of an Executive Dir. for the SOPAC in November.

I noted that she is the former Director/Manager of the John Harms Theater in Englewood which closed earlier this year because of a budget deficit of over $2 million. (I think it's now re-opened but under a different name)

Anyone else know more about it? About why John Harms failed? Or about the current hiring process???

I think they had one big corporate sponsor, who backed out. Fleet Bank maybe?

Tom: They had received over 150 resumes. I don't remember how many people they interviewed.
I suggest you contact the chair of the SOPAC board(Barbara Stoller) if you want to know more about the hiring process and what they know about the Harms center.

Thanks Mark. Is there a web site? Board List? Email links? Does the Board Chair monitor this forum?

I checked a few things and didn't see anything.

Actually, the Gaslight said they received 60 resumes.

Then again, the Gaslight didn't have any mention of the March downtown, the non-progress at the Beifus site or the Shop Rite site, so it's not exactly an accurate "news" source.

I am pretty sure there were over 150 resumes. I think over 60 were contacted.

Tom: They said they are currently working on their website. You can get in touch with them through the administrator's office at village hall. I think Mrs. Stoller is listed in the local phone book. I have no idea if she ever looks at this board.

Mark,

FYI...I noticed that sopac.com and sopac.org are already taken by other organizations.

It got me thinking though...is this facility OFFICIALLY going to be called "SOPAC", or is the Village trying to drum up corporate sponsorship for the name.

Unfortunately, my checkbook isn't big enough for it to be the Mayhewdrive Multiplex, but.....

Maybe Lauryn Hill wants to make it "Hill Hall"
Maybe Shelly Stile want to make it "Soar Stadium"
Maybe you want to make it "Rosner Rotunda"
or maybe it can just be the "Coming Soon Coliseum"

"River Walk Playhouse" if it makes money or breaks even. "The Millstone" if it becomes a money pit. Simply add a sponsor's name to either one

What is the name of the new director? I work with BergenPac (formerly the Harms Center)as well as NJPac and some other arts entities, and can probably get some 411.

Jessica Alexis Finkelburg is the new Executive Dir. for the SOPAC (according to the Gaslight).

If you work for Bergen PAC, I and I think some others who posted here would be be curious about why John Harms could not recover from it's debt, who was responsible and how it occurred.

Might help South Orange avoid some of the same mistakes.

From what I've read in the news, they went too far into debt to fund a renovation, and then got slammed by the post-internet boom, post 9/11 economy and couldn't pay the debts when their donations softened.
