South Orange Illumination-2004

For the past three years, South Orange Productions (SOP) has sponsored this spectacular event on New Year's Eve. The intent of South Orange Illumination-2004 is to symbolically connect all of the neighborhoods and light a pathway into the New Year.

Over the past few weeks, over a hundred Block Captains have distributed fliers/ order forms to residences’ homes. Please return the order form to your Block Captain as soon as possible. If you did not receive an order form and would like to participate, please come to the . . .

Baird Center-Teen Center
Saturday December 18th or Sunday, December 19th
11:30 – 2:30

Luminaries will be sold for $2.00 each and are placed on your front sidewalk. If you are away for the holiday, check with a neighbor, they may be able to light yours. Additionally, 800 luminaries will circle Flood's Hill again this year starting at 5:00 PM on New Year's Eve.

Proceeds will be used for this spring’s premier of “Once Upon a Gaslight ...A Walking Tour of South Orange.” A full length documentary which highlights our town’s past, present and future and serves to educate our children and community about South Orange’s rich heritage.

A new tradition will make this year even more extraordinarily special . . .
South Orange Productions is hosting a late afternoon Seniors Reception on New Year's Eve. Our village seniors will have an opportunity to socialize at the Baird Center and watch the Flood's Hill luminaries being lit. A mini bus will then escort those seniors, who have advance reservations, on a "Tour of Lights" around South Orange. Carmel, at the Baird Center, is taking reservations for those seniors interested in attending. Please contact her at 973-378-7754 to reserve a spot.

We look forward to your participation and becoming a part of the tradition. We know you will be glad you got involved!

I participated for the first time last year, and our neighborhood (near Underhill field)looked great. We then took a ride over to Flood's hill and the streets around it...great seeing all the neighborhoods come together to make this happen. this year, I expect more and more folks will be participating now that we have all seen it.

It is great to see yourself, and for those having guests, it is fun for your guests to see it on their way to you that night.

Bump.

Luminaries are $2 apiece. Not a bad investment in a night lit against the darkness of deepest December.

Last chance to contact your block captain!
