I live in South Orange. How do I dispose of my christmas tree? I didn't find any info on the public works webpage. |

Can we just drop them over the fence at Beifus? |

While I really like snshirsch's idea, the usual manner of disposing of your tree is to simply leave it on the curb. Do not leave your wreath, garland or other Christmasy adornment as they will be left on the curb by the town (something about wires mucking up the chipper) and you'll have to find an alternate place for them anyway. Maybe we could throw those over the Beifus fence! |

my tree will stay up until January 6 (the 12th day of Christmas, of course). Is that too late? Do you know the latest I can put the tree on the street and expect a pickup. |

composerjohn- We keep our tree up until then as well... the Italian "Little Christmas" tradition. Call the town for the exact date if you're worried, but they've picked ours up mid-month in the past. |

As posted previously: MUCH BETTER IDEA: On the next sunny day, *Remove ALL decorative tinsel & stuff from tree. *Secure tree to top of car. *Drive car to Island Beach State Park. *Remove tree in parking lot and carry to the beach. *Half-bury tree horizontally on either side of unprotected sand dune. *Frolic and romp on the beach awhile, celebrating the ecology-friendly act you've just completed. *Return to car. *Head North, stopping at favorite seafood restaurant for lunch. *Toast your eco-savvy selves with lobster bisque. -s. BTW: If you don't immediately understand the reason for disposing of your tree in this manner, just trust me: That's the way it's done by residents of all the best barrier beaches. |
