I am sure everyone has already seen this, but on the village website they announced the identity of the future village market operator. Though the brief statement identifies the name of the operator and invites trustees to visit the operator's other stores in NYC and on LI, no details about the location or name of the stores is included. Anyone else know anything? |

The name on the SO site was John Choi, it looks like the text may have been taken down. |

Josh M. -- I don't know where I remember reading this (perhaps the Gaslight?), but I think that the name of the new supermarket is Gourmet Market. -- Harold |

SOAR representatives met with John Choi last week. He is a bright young man who comes from a family that has been in the food business for many years. They had a couple of markets out on Long Island that they no longer own as well as a number of small deli-type stores in the City. We talked with Mr Choi for a couple of hours and he seems to be very knowledgable about upscale grocery store operations and the foodstuffs. We also saw a floor plan for his store, which I believe can be retrieved from the Village Website or the New Market website. The plans looked great. We felt confident after our meeting that if the New Market project does go forward (there is still no developer's agreement that the BOT finds acceptable and so the Village still owns the property so no work can go forward)), we feel that John has our best interests at heart. Only time will tell. He did operate a store in the 5 towns area of Long Island, which is very upscale. |

I saw a article about this a few weeks ago. Can't remember where. But something that jumped out at me was the owners of this new market do not live in South Orange. I might be wrong, but I thought it was said by the BOT the owners lived in town. |

It was stated that two of the developers of the project live in S. Orange. The supermarket operator does not live in S. Orange.

It looks like West South Orange Avenue looking west toward Ridgwood Road from the train viaduct. I have seen several of these old postcards on ebay and in some stores downtown. |
