After sending a copy of my cashed check which they did not credit, I once again received an invoice from SO Disposal showing I missed a payment. Did this happen to anyone else? |

Yes! and they charged us $1.79 finance fee! After we went to the bother of sending them a copy of our check. They didn't credit us for either payment! |

Our finance fee was $.90. What I find most irritating about this is the wasted time I've put into this and they have yet to even "officially" recognize they made a mistake. Now I get a finance fee and another threat of suspended service. Now I will need to walk into their office and present them with a copy of the cashed check in order to clear the account. I wonder how many people paid the invoice without realizing that SOD made a mistake? On top of this, the service from SOD has been horrible lately. They throw the empty cans all over the place and sometimes don't bother to take all the trash. I wish the town would get involved and get these people to clean up their act (no pun intended). |

Ditto. Getting ready to write one of my really scathing letters. Tony isn't going to get off easy on this one. |

I almost hate to mention it here, but I put a note about the "past due" balance ($xx paid on xx/04 by check #xx) in with my check last time, and both payments were credited on the current bill, so there's hope. But probably no hope of having lids put back on the trash barrels (esp. when it's raining, or they've left some stuff in the barrel), or getting credit for missed pick-ups. (is there a whiny face?) Oh well, most of it is picked up most of the time, and I try not to think about the per-barrel cost, cuz there's no practical alternative... |

Agree all around. Everywhere I've lived I've had to pay for garbage removal, but the amount in S.O. is the highest I've ever paid by far. The service isn't bad -- when they bother to pick up my garbage, that is.

We sent in the cashed check as well and received another bill with a past due notice. This is really out of control. |

Is there anyway that the town could take over this service...we are really stuck with no options but to live with SO disposal. |

I pay the bills for an organization in South Orange and was also sent the original duplicate bill. I sent in the cancelled check and it was credited to the account on the first attempt. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. The cost is another story. We pay $175.00 for a 3 yard container that gets about 3 bags a week. Oh yeah, and that's a reduced price because we swithed to a once a week pick up instead of twice a week. Called around and there isn't another company that will cross over in to SO Disposal's territory. |

Same BS arrived today with finance charge. What do we do? A closer look at the checkbook reveals they are not completely incorrect. |

I was advised by SO Disposal that somebody hacked into their computer system, causing them to lose all of their account info. No excuse for the poor service, but it may explain the failure to issue credit for payments. |

Daniel: The problem is that they did not send out an explanation with the bills - All they had to do was ask for a copy of the cancelled checks. Instead there was no explanation and probably some people just paid with the double billing and never thought about it again while figuring they just forgot to send in the payment.

I hadn't read this thread until now, but for the past several months I've been getting invoices in the mail and calls from Waste Mgmt. saying I didn't pay a certain invoice when I know I did. I paid it online and it was deducted from my acct. in Nov. I tried calling the no. on the bills and get a gazillion recordings. I'm not going crazy trying to get in touch with them, this is ridiculous. |

well, because they lost the data (btw, I was told no one hacked into their computers, but they got a virus which destroyed data) -- they cannot even send a statement for more that a short time back! in my case, since they never sent bills, i assume they added interest every quarter. i finally did get a helpful person, she credited my account for a month of service. not worth haggling about any futher, imo. but really, why are there no other providers? i lived in a town, about same size as SO, in central NJ. we could choose from at least 3 trash companies. they each had slightly different containers/plans -- which was very good. i have the feeling this is one of those things "we've always done this way" -- so no attempt has been made to change this. (and if SO disposal makes the argument that their rates will have to go up because they have less business -- then maybe they need to think about WHY they would have less business!) Pete |

I faxed a copy of my cashed check and my account has finally been credited and the interest charges removed. |

I asked again about the billing. They seem to be responsive when they are called but I still think they should send a letter of explanation to all the residents. My fear is that some people just pay their bills and figured they missed one. Again, I requested that they come to a BOT meeting and explain in public if they are not going to notify every resident. We will see if they show up at the next meeting. |

As a matter of principle, I flatly refuse to solve their problem for them unless they communicate that there actually *is* a problem. I will continue to promptly and cheerfully pay my bills when they come in and equally as cheerfully ignore any balances due or laughable finance charges. I hereby *dare* them to cancel my service. ... yes, I am itching for a fight |

Is this the second time that they have used computer problems as an excuse or is this still the first? This is simply amazing |

Couldn't they get their bank to issue some sort of report of all of their deposits. Do they keep copies of checks? These are some things that other businesses do? I think they know that they can do whatever they want and the residents have no other options. They have a monopoly and no incentive to provide good service... |
