Martini's in Millburn is very hip. For a GREAT brew pub with excellent food try Trap Rock in Berkeley Heights. |

Bunny's. Stay local. Trap Rock is a great time but remember you must drive home. |

I am around the corner from Bunny's. Matt thanks for the advice. I would rather walk! What is the deal with Cryan's?

Cryan's is local.. been here forever. Has a crew of "regulars" who frequent the bar. Reggie the bartender is from "the olde sod." Although they have entertainment on the weekends, it's not exactly what I'd call "hip" if that's what you're looking for. |

Jamie Berkeley Heights is kind of local. About 15 minute West on Route 78. You're better off going to Bunny's. If you have a Star Ledger look in the pull out section for different 'clubs' in the area that have different kinds of music. If you're into jazz there's a place in Millburn -you can take the train there. Or you can go to Morristown -also by train, where there are lots of places to go. If you want to drive, there's Montclair.

Cryans has taken a turn in the last year or so. It is fun if you like fights between underage locals and college students in the parking lot while trying to leave. Try St James Gate in Maplewood Village, or Quincy's in West Orange...if your looking for a crowd, there is a great Irish pub at the Hanover Marriot, which is only about 15 minute ride. |

St James's Gate is good, but really crowded. You can try the bar at Papillon. Gaffer's in West Orange, about a block from Quincy's, is also very good. If you want a "saloon," with real saloon feel, go to Roscommon House, on Vauxhall Road, the other side of 22. It's on a corner, opposite a corner gas station. It's local, authentic, has the feel and personalities of a good saloon, and perhaps the longest bar in this part of New Jersey. |

Old & Gray - cheap shot at Cryan's. Bad form. Cryan's is cozy and homey. Not for people looking for the "hipest bar in town" but it has it's place. I'll agree St. James Gate is also a good choice though and they often have entertainment on the weekends. |

My friends (ages 23 - 35) and I go out in South Orange also because we hate figuring out who will drive. Here is my list for you. Bunnies: Pizza and Beer. Although Bunnies has an extensive menu (My girlfriend swore that wouldn’t have Bananas Foster, and they did) it is a Pizza and Beer joint. You sit at a booth or at the bar and although people are friendly enough there really isn’t any mingling. This is a great place to start (warm up). Papillion 25: Trendy but has a fickle crowd. Some days we have a blast there and hang with some fun people, other times we feel way out of place. We usually walk by, look in the window and make a decision. It’s a little pricy. Lot 25: Just can’t seem to draw a crowd. It’s also a little pricy, and the kitchen closes at 10. This is fun if you’re already with a group, because you can get a few bar tables and hang together. Cryans: It’s a bar. They have bands (some times good, sometimes not), Karaoke, or juke box. The drinks are reasonable cheap as is the food. There is a pretty good mix of people around from Collage to Retirees depending on the time. This bar will have the most people in it on any given night. Later at night the collage crowd takes over a bit but if your there at 1am you probably could care less. Toro Loco. Mexican, once in a while there will be a few groupings of like aged people but not to often. Best visited in the summer when you can sit outside. (BTW we’ll be there around 7-8 Sat night) GasLight: Reasonably priced drinks, food on the expensive side. They some times have bands, or music. There is darts and games and stuff, and there will be a lot of people (but not to much you can’t get a seat.) People on this board will bash Gaslight, and I won’t disagree, they don’t like kids, but the service has improved dramatically. FWIW Tony now works Saturday nights I wouldn’t vote for one or the other, I like them all in their own respects. If you ask for a suggestion….. Grab a Martini at Papillion maybe an appetizer. Eat at either Bunnies or Gaslight, on the way home swing into Cryans and see if the Band is playing.

Why don't you all meet up at Newark airport and take a trip to Bermuda? It's only about an hour flight and Hamilton has excellent dining as well many bars within walking distance. Oh, and it's not snowing there. |

Brett W. to Brett- Excellent local rundown! It sounds like a dozen fine evenings I've had in recent months. You can also expand dining options to include Taste of Asia or The Reservoir. Neelam gets raves from those who dig Indian (not my fave). |

If you're into jazz there's a place in West Orange called Cecil's. Live (quality) Jazz every night |

Cecil's is great. This is one of the best “Date Nights” in the area, if you’re up for a short drive. Usually its $10 a piece at the door, and another $20 (on the sly) will put you right up front near the stage. It’s not necessary but I’m not sure who the “friend” is. I’ve been there a few nights and it rivals any night you would spend in the city. Shows start at 9 (9:30 really) so you should shoot for 8:45 for a great seat. The food is so so, it’s best to eat before you arrive. Cheap eats try Quincy’s. For something a little nicer there is an Italian restaurant very close (Nassau st? Someone help me on this) This is by far, the best night out you will spend in the area. Every time we’ve left there it’s been in shock, best nights we’ve had in the area. This coming from a guy sitting at home on a Friday night. Hey my GF is on a girl’s weekend, so kill me.
