March 10, 2005, 5:35 PM EST With BC-Highway Spending, moving on national lines ddbn WASHINGTON (AP) _ A $284 billion transportation bill that passed the House on Thursday would give New Jersey $5.4 billion in federal highway money over a six-year period. That's about $1 billion more than the state received in the previous six-year package. The $5.4 billion estimate for New Jersey comes from an early internal calculation by House staffers, and does not include the estimate for transit system money. The Senate will take up the measure next week. Among the New Jersey projects included were: _$12 million for the reconstruction of the Route 46/Route 3 interchange. _$1.5 million for a bike/pedestrian path in South Orange. _$1 million for Schooley's Mountain Road bypass over the Raritan River. _$1 million for the construction of a floating and fixed pier and ferry terminal at Sandy Hook. The bill is H.R. 3. Bout time we got back some of the money we send to Washington.

The current TC will make the bike path around SOPAC. It will cost $25k for the bike path and the rest of the money will go to Mr. Gross and his salary increases and to finally get SOPAC up and running. |

From what I've heard, the bike/walking path will connect Orange to Milburn along the Rahway river annex (the brook) I'm not sure if I was misinformed. I also saw plans for a new soccer field, basketball courts and an outdoor hockey facility(which I'm very excited about) Of course (at the speed our town operates) I'll be watching my grandchildren play the very first hockey game on that surface. |

MHD, being cynical is the only way to tolerate this message board. I hate being serious, I love being sarcastic. It's a healthy way to deal with BS.

Actually, I'm fairly certain federal grants need to be used in a timely manner or the $ has to be returned. |

At the pace our town currently operates then the money will most likely have to be returned. Cynical? Yes. We've been in SO for the past 6 years and have seen little to no progress. Gaslight was the ONLY new developement that we've seen. And that did nothing for the current residents. |

Growler, Remember what you are saying next May in the election booth. Vote out the present incompetence. Vote for people who have done some good for the Village, like Eric DeVaris and John Pogany. |

"Vote for people who have done some good for the Village, like Eric DeVaris and John Pogany." Thank you. I'll second that... |
