Forgive me if this has been answered before, but a search of the board has brought up nothing for me.

Why is the large flag downtown always at half mast? Is there a political reason for this, or is SO just breaking flag protocol? I've always wondered...

not sure about always, but I recall reading that Acting Gov Codey declared all flags be at half mast on Friday to honor a soldier that was killed (or had died).
