Many seem to. Or at least filtration systems. |

We find old style Cascade (or the Costco store brand) works better than any of the new variations. |

We have a water softener. We held out for years, but finally got one because the hard water is really tough on the plumbing. |

We have really hard water as well. We have had very good results using Seventh Generation in the dishwasher (much better than cascade). 7th Gen also has the benefit of being environmentally friendly (available at Whole Foods). Once a week I also put a cup of vinegar in with the dishes, which also helps. |

Haven't heard about "water" lately. Has this problem gone away or are there still open issues? |

We're still having water problems. My nephews say "it's GROSS" the way the dishes look. |

Dishes coming out of the dishwasher look worse than when they went in, especially the glasses. We have taken to hand washing just about everything. There was something in the Gaslight about it, but I don't know if this problem is fixable. |

Several months ago, I posted on MOL about my glasses coming out of the dishwasher looking yucky. Someone recommended a product called "Glass Magic". No problems since I began using it! |

Me2 Where can we buy Glass Magic? I've been trying to find it with no luck. My nephews now refuse to eat anything made with tap water! They insist we use the bottled water. Guess instead of going through 3 or 4 of the 7 gallon jusgs a week it will now be about 10!!! |

I wish we still had our own water system, fed by aquifers. South Orange used to have an excelent water system. Alas, we're paying premium dinero to a middle-man for low quality h2o. That was another poor decision made by an administration under the watch of Calabrese, Matthews, et al (ad nauseum!). I think it's made water more expensive - anyone else agree? |

Rasto I meant the 5 gallon jugs! Well it seemed like we go through close to 3-4 of those jusg a week; but my sister, who just called here to say 'hi' to the kids, told me it's more like 2-3 five gallon jugs, not 3-4 a week. Even then, it's 10-15 galloons a week which means it's almost 2 gallons a day at times. There are 6 of us drinking it. Not to mention the assortment of friends in and out of the house. My nephews also tend to fill a glass drink part of it, then dump the rest. I drink a lot od water because I don't like milk or juice. Up until a month or so ago for the past four years or so, all I'd drink was water. I started to drink diet orange sunlist soda a month or so ago; but am trying to go back to just water. We have to get a gallon of milk every other day! My one nephew will eat three bowls of cereal for breakfast! |

I bought Glass Magic at Kings and it worked wonders. Our glasses gleam once more. And the silverware even looks better. |

About 10 years ago, a friend and I were discussing opening a good east coast style bagel shop in Boulder,Co. That was until he started talking about flying in water from NY/NJ/CT. That's when I discovered "Rocky Mountain High" was more than a song. btw:they still need a good bagel shop |

Does anyone know what the hardness of the water is in South Orange? This information was not on the water quality report sent out last year by East Orange water, and I haven't been able to get an answer from them. I have a fancy dishwasher that will solve the hardness problem, but I have to know what it is to set it!

Hi everyone, I'm posting on behalf of my mother here. We have incredibly hard water at my house and it ends up etching all of our glassware. Does Glass Magic actually prevent this etching or just make the glasses cleaner? Thanks! |

We've used a Culligan water softener for years - if you have Culligan (in W. Orange) come to your house to discuss possibly buying a softener, they will test your water hardness and tell you what it is. Our water tests "soft" with the water softener, but our glasses are etched in the dishwasher anyway. I recently switched to the Trader Joe's dishwasher detergent which is supposed to be great according to Consumer Reports. So far so good. |
