Does anyone notice that most all the south orange parking meters run out of time at completely different rates? The two hour and one hour parking meters dont keep perfect time. |

Hey, since we all agree that parking in South Orange is absolutly horrible, can someone please explain to me how the South Orange Parking Authority allows someone to park a trailer on South Orange Ave. in the area of Gallery 61 & Block Buster every day for more than a week? Isn't feeding the meter supose to be illegal in South Orange? Not to mention I'm sure there is probably some ordinance on the books that prohibits this as well. |

I believe the trailer is related to the gallery in some way. The artwork on the side is similar to what is inside. Anyways, call me crazy but I kinda like the trailer. It doesn't bother me (except for taking up a much coveted space). |

What is the difference in time at the varying meters? Are you being shorted 2 minutes or 10 on a 1 hr meter? There are still many mechanical meters - this might be part of the problem. If you have an issue with a meter, please call Neva at the SOPA 973-762-6000 ext 2037 and inform her of the problem. Meter feeding is illegal. I will address the trailer on SO Ave with the ED.

My pleasure, em already fired off to Mark. I'll post later on what I find out. FYI - Tonight is the monthly SO Parking Authority meeting 7:00pm Village Hall - open to the public. If you have questions, issues or concerns, I encouraged you to attend. |

Re: Trailer parked and meter feeding on SO Ave The vehicle has been there off and on recently. SOPA has been ticketing it. Yesterday SOPA left messages for the owner. They are trying to get him to relocate it. I hope this clarifies matters. Jeff DuBowy www.jeffdubowy.com

If you park at a 1 hr meter - that is the total time you are allowed to park in that specific space. You are not allowed to come back 2 minutes before your time expires and put more money in, to extend your stay. That is called "meter feeding". You can be issued a ticket for this offense. This prevents, especially some business owners, from parking directly in front of their respective storefronts all day long. The meters are for shoppers in the business district. Parking spaces at meters are supposed to turn over, allowing others to park and conduct their business. Jeff DuBowy www.jeffdubowy.com

I can't imagine why a business owner would want to park directly in front of their storefront. It seems to me: less parking = less customers |

A prime example of relentless meter feeding occurs on Sloan Street, where selfish merchants' persistent meter feeding habits routinely deprive shoppers of nearby parking. RE/Max agents (and the former Brushstoke owner), for example, are notorious for using shopper spaces, rather than park in designated employee lots. NJ Transit employees, despite dedicated spaces in the NJT parking lot, routinely park in shopper spaces on Sloan Street without ever be hassled or ticketed by SOPA. It's as if they have diplomatic status, granted by SOPA. Any merchant who complains about parking in this town, and who feeds the meter, should be pilloried in Spiotta Park. |

It's as if they have diplomatic status, granted by SOPA. Just curious how would the Parking Authority, or you for that matter, know that these cars belong to NJ Transit employees? DO they have some type of designation on their cars?

This may have been discussed already, but what's going to happen when the new gourmet market (supposedly) opens next year? Where are people going to park? To be honest, the idea of feeding the meter to buy some groceries doesn't sit well with me. I realize there may be no other choice. |

Beyond the NJT trucks that conspicuously park on the Sloan Street plaza sidewalks -- rather than behind the station in NJT-DESIGNATED spaces not available to commuters or shoppers -- the station master and other employees routinely park IN FRONT of the station in shopper spaces. |

The same why SOPA knows the car and anyone else who walks by it in the morning...there is NJT labeled items on the dashboard. |
