How does the government of this town allow this to continue to happen? What if every property owner wanted to tear down their building would the government of South Orange allow it to happen? Their obviously is no control on the time given to rebuild.

A clearly inept businessman -- who chose to tear down the building, apparently without having financing in place. Then, he alters the plan (lower cost building) and apparently proceeds before having all approvals.

The new owner of the muffler shop, Town Hall Deli, appears to be equally inept. Purchased the site months ago -- had plans on his web site, and now nothing.

This would be sort of like me hirng an architect to build a new house double the size of my current home, tearing it down, then realizing I couldn't afford it!

Boggles the mind. But then, there is no law about stupidity, is there.

Let's be clear -- for any of these development nightmares -- if there was *bundles* of cash to be made by those owning the properties -- then construction would be long done!

OR -- the village would have condemned, redeveloped, then sold at a profit.

I believe this are typical small town struggles --but its vexing that they go on for so long.

Pete

Does anybody know what happened at the April 4 Planning Board meeting? It was the same evening as the debate. I think Sayad was scheduled to discuss the results of the soil testing on his site with the Planning Board.

So...The town should take back the midas location and put it back on the market. It will bring more money today. 1st he rented a landmark location in our town to a bank then he buys at a steal of a price the midas location and there it sits.
The rug shop should be condemed!!!!!!!!! And the property sold. Now who the hell owns the dump next to Bunnys tavern another location that is sitting like a mess! These are people who do not care about the town. What would it cost to clean it up paint it and make it presentable for the residents......lets see $100.00 for paint?
Atleast the owner of the Sickley building painted and cleaned it up!

The building, next to Bunny's, which we have owned for only a few months, will be painted by the end of next week. Thanks for your concern.

The town desperately needs to adopt a code found in other towns, namely that once a building is demolished, the owner has a finite period of time to complete or at least show progress on the project. If that doesn't happed there are fines akin to doubling of the property taxes. That would be Beifus, Rug guys and Midas moving but quick

The owner of the THD will be moving forward with his plans. The critisism is unfair.

OK about THD -- that is great.

But after all the *words* and window dressing about development in this town -- its what we *see* that tells us the story.

It IS frustrating

CageyD,

Totally agree. Similar ideas have been proposed NUMEROUS times over the past year or two, but instead a majority of the BOT has been too busy voting to pay themselves & provide a pension, voting to give a tax break to Beifus and voting to essentially make John Gross Administrator for life.

So we have a person running for office in our town who is letting a piece of property sit like a mess? For a few months? There has been a for rent sign in this window for a while. Again it is another eye soar!!!! It should have been in the very least cleaned up and painted by now it is in the center of town!!! Shame!

Just for the record, THD has submitted his plans to the planning board and expects to appear at the meeting in May.

The owner of THD accepted the bid last summer and closed on the property in the last week of December.
The planning board meets once a month and an applicant needs to have his plans well in advance so they can be reviewed by the various officials.

Do you know if he is the person that is looking for rental space in town for a business called the "original town hall sloppy joe"?

No idea - as far as I know, no body has come to village hall inquiring about the space. Just rumors.
