Did anyone else receive a "Redevelopment Update" in the mail from the village? I enjoyed it a great deal. Especially the "letters" from the potential developers. Best part is, according to a note at the end, village residents get to wait until the next update to see the financial impacts of this redevelopment . . .

Dan,
There is already a topic on this junk mail under the "SO Elections" section.

I wonder if the calculations will show the $1.2 million the Village spent to subsidize the quarry developer, the tax revenue lost from Shop Rite over the past 4 years and the tax revenue that will be lost when the Village has to pay Beifus's property taxes over the coming 18+ months????

Regardless of one's political bent in the upcoming election how can anybody take the "Downtown Redevelopment Update" seriously? For this to come out just before the elections is just like the fence around the PAC site and the razing of the Beifus building immediately prior to the last election. Are some residents actually going to be fooled into believing that this is serious or will voters wise up and realize that we are being had?????

It has taken over ten years for three development deals with barely a shovel in the ground for any of them. Thank heavens are BOT was not tasked with inventing the wheel.

That's political propaganda before the election. What Calabrese is saying to us is:

SEE HOW GREAT WE ARE DOING? IF YOU VOTE FOR MY SLATE OF THE "VILLAGE INDEPENDENTS" JENNINGS-MOORE-ADAMS-SALVATORIELLO, WE WILL CONTINUE IN THE SAME PACE.

And to think that this political garbage is paid out of our own taxes.

Didn't we get one of these within the past few months? Can't remember what was happening then; but I thought several people posted about it on MOL.

Why does it seem that things cant get done in SO? When I drive by Livingston, there is construction at a serious pace. They will have a whole city built before we get anything done

I have lived in town for a year. when I moved to town, a grocery store was imminent. I met someone who has lived in town for 6 years, he heard the same thing when he moved in.

Where is the tax money going? Has an independent audit ever been completed? Why is there no accountability? There has to be high levels of incompetence. I cant see anyone voting for incumbents.

LGW,

You are absolutely right. Everything that is proposed in South Orange seems to stagnate forever.

The grocery store, Beifus improvements and SOPAC have all been "Coming Soon" for at least 6 years.

As for where the money is going...that's a VERY good question!!!

On May 10 there is an election for 3 seats on the Board of Trustees that are opening up as no incumbents are running for re-election. It is a huge loss to lose Trustee Patrick Joyce, who has been a real voice of reason and an advocate for the public. However, getting rid of Steglitz & Theroux is the best first step in actually moving South Orange forward.
