Since the owners probably broke a record for how much their liquor license cost them, charging 100%-150% mark-up on wine, SOP among restaurants, is not unreasonable. Perhaps Voro can expand its wine list to include some more reasonably price choices, or sell a lot of over-priced martinis to recover its license investment. |

User, why do you feel the need to argue with everyone on the cost of things and if their opinion on restaurants differs from yours? Opinons are opinions. It's not that big of a deal.

User58, Maybe I just have gotten too use to the BYOB restraunts in NJ. You pay no markup and get to bring wine from your own cellar! But I must disagree with your analogy because the martini needs to be made correctly and the certainly so does the chicken. All the wine needs is be opened and poured - both things that I tip the server on. All in all I like the restraunt and plan to go back. Another thing I forgot to mention is that they don't have high chairs or boster seats. Not a big deal but it does help keep our daughter from running away. |

Many restaurants will allow BYOB for a $15 corking fee per bottle even if they have a liquor license. I've only seen this done for large groups but I've always wondered if they would allow this for a few couples. |

I also think that Voro's wine mark-ups seem in line with most other places. I have no problem with their markeup, especially given the amazing cost of a liquor license in NJ! Sometimes I like BYOB, and sometimes I get really tired of it. When we go out as a couple, we often don't need a full bottle. We try to keep a selection of nice half bottles around for taking to BYOB places, but often end up forgetting to take one, and just drinking water. Also, I don't always want to drink the same thing as my spouse. Sometimes I want a different varietal, sometimes I want a mixed drink. BYOB is great for oenophiles and for cost cutting, but I have to say that I like having another good place with a liquor license in town! |

I visited this place a few days ago. It goes to the top of the pack in terms of decor. Food was a little disappointing for the price. Service was very good and the owners were friendly. |

Ate there last weekend. I agree the decor is great and the hosts/servers are really attractive and friendly. However we found that, while the tapas were good, the main courses were not wonderful and not nearly as good as we were expecting from the above reviews. It's a bit too noisy and trying too hard to be New York. |

We loved it. But I'm with those who feel the wine prices are just too steep. It's not fair to compare to BYOB--this is a wine bar, after all. But the mark-up is really high--the prices for glasses quoted above don't seem reasonable to me--even by Manhattan standards. I know NJ liquor licenses are a lot to swallow but I'm assuming that the duration and success of a place is how these things cost out over time. Again, maybe as people say, some other options would help. |

To answer Soda we ordered lamb and found it fatty and not a particularly good piece of meat. We didn't have dessert. |

Try The baby lamb chops on the Tapas menu. They're nifty. And the mini-paella was great... -s.

Ok we'll give it another try. I would love to see more successful restaurants in SO.We lived in Montclair for 28 years before moving to SO and the restaurant scene was great for the town. |

Brett, I have been a vocal critic of the wine prices. This should not keep people away since the food and atmostphere are top notch. Hopefully the owners will listen to the feedback and bring the prices down to more reasonable levels. In any case, I will stay away from the wine list until things change and stay with mixed drinks or water. |

The problem is they're trying to be a wine bar. I really enjoy wine with my food and won't go there because I can't enjoy food while I feel like I'm being ripped off. And I can see a wine shop directly out the window, which doesn't help. |

Anyone know how far in advance reservations should be made? Haven't been to Voro, yet, but plan to try it this weekend. |

If they are trying to be a wine bar they should offer wines for all tastes and all pockets. Especially all pockets. I like good wine with my dinner that's why I go to BYOB restaurants, and there are plenty of good ones around. I can easily find good food and good atmosphere carrying my own $12 to $15 bottles of wine, than go to a restaurant with good food and atmosphere and get a $12 bottle of wine for $25. I hope Voro gets the message and lower their wine prices, if they want to get us wine lovers there. |

In planning to celebrate our 10 year anniversary, we wanted to try out Voros. We weren't able to get reservations until 9:30, but figured since we had a baby sitter we might as well give it a try. i'm happy to say we were more than pleasantly surprised. We went early and sat by the bar, comfortably on a couch. Had some drinks and waited for our table to be available. The place was packed, decor was perfect and service more than helpful and friendly. I couldn't decide exactly what I wanted to drink, described something to our waiter and he came back with a delicious drink that the bartender had made up for me. 9:30 on the dot, they sat us. After a couple more drinks, appetizers and good meal, we left feeling like we were just on vacation. We got a tour of the upstairs, what a neat room...looking forward to attending a party there. Welcome to South Orange!
